Florid barbershop scent for the trad male groomer
A dandified floral barbershop affair, full of soapy amber, woods, and bay rhum spicing. It is impressively dense and well-built, with a bitter mossiness running through it that practically posts signage around it saying, women, approach at your own risk. I imagine someone like Ron Swanson applying it, its frosted bottle the sole toiletry on a bleak-looking cabinet besides for, say, a withered bar of green soap and a rusty ole razor.
What I mean to say that it smells masculine and solid to me, and old-fashioned in a nice way, like Ettore Bugatti or Obsession Pour Homme or Boucheron Jaipur Pour Homme - fragrances that smell like something a man slaps on after a wet shave even though they are stuffed with tons of flowers, desert-like spices, and have an ostentatiously powdery drydown. The difference is, to me, that none of these fragrances feel sweet or creamy, which are the factors that I feel nudge us into feminine territory. Sutra Ylang is aromatic, not creamy, and sour-herbal-spicy rather than milky chai tea spicy. But if you are a woman who wears Coco and Opium, then you are used to this slightly bitter, spicy vein, which means that Sutra Ylang won't be too far out of your comfort zone.
