A surprisingly sensual vanilla
It's been a while since I smelt Hypnotic Poison, and while I can in some ways understand the comparison, I don't think Christina Aguilera By Night is entirely similar.

Out of all her commercially released fragrances so far, By Night is the best. There is nothing horribly synthetic about it and it sits on the skin nicely without being too loud or offensive.

Vanilla is very much the driving force within this fragrance. Thankfully it blends perfectly with all the other notes.

I rather enjoy the uniqueness of the top notes which consist of mandarin orange, red apple, hints of vanilla, almond and freesia. The red apple adds a delightfully fresh yet gourmand quality when blended with the almond and vanilla. The scent makes me long for a warm dish of apple crumble served with whipped cream.

Heading towards the drydown, the vanilla becomes muskier and slightly powdery which certainly makes an interesting scent when combined with the rich and warm amber. There is also a possible additive of white woods in the drydown which my nose seems to detect.

Overall I think Christina Aguilera has managed to produce a fragrance that many will like and eventually purchase. Its creaminess and sweetness makes it an excellent choice for Winter, however it could wear well in the Summer too. The lasting strength is quite good so far, so I feel rather relieved in being able to finally recommend a fragrance from Christina Aguilera's range.

The Better HP
I have some issues with Dior Hypnotic Poison. At least the current version is just too intense and too girly for me. I got By Night because it was mentioned in the comments here that it would smell similar but a bit softer. Generally, I would agree with that, although the fragrance pyramids are actually not particularly similar.

The top note of By Night actually feels to me like a toned-down Hypnotic Poison. And thus, Christina's scent feels more elegant to me, although you can definitely notice a qualitative difference because By Night overall comes across as a bit flatter. But that doesn't bother me. Especially since HP is just too much sweetness for me anyway. By the way, I find the splash of rhubarb in the top note really cool. It's one of those things you don't expect at all, which then forms a great counterbalance to the actually quite sweet fragrance.

As it develops, By Night becomes quite independent. Hawthorn and heliotrope actually emit a rather sweet and heavy scent. Especially when the inevitable vanilla is mixed in, as well as peach (here it smells more like the almost overripe fruit and not as indicated like the blossom). However, By Night has a rather restrained sillage overall. As long as you don't pour the whole bottle over your head, you don't have to worry about overdoing it.

I just don't particularly like the base. It's too amber-heavy for me. As I've mentioned from time to time, I usually don't like amber notes in drugstore fragrances. Here, it's also that there is a synthetic undertone that makes it feel a bit cheap. Especially now in summer.

In general, By Night is one of those fragrances that fall apart very quickly when it's warm. In my opinion, it develops really nicely in late autumn when there's no snow yet but the weather is already quite unpleasant. Then the fragrance really envelops you pleasantly. The longevity is also significantly better when it's cold. Unfortunately, you still can't get more than 6 hours out of it.

I recommend By Night to all ladies looking for a subtler and affordable alternative to Dior's Hypnotic Poison (but not the vintage version).

Please, no
18:42 - the train arrives at the next stop with a delay. A young woman sits down in the empty seat across from me. She looks friendly, and we greet each other with a nice smile, where you slightly tense your mouth area while the upper half of the face remains unchanged. And suddenly, that discomfort sets in again. It doesn’t come slowly, it doesn’t knock, it doesn’t ask if it’s okay to be present for the next 2 hours. No. By Night kicks the door in, screams a loud "HELLO YOU ASSHOLE" in your face, and throws the destroyed door at you. It is as intrusive as a screaming child on a plane. Only with one small difference: the unfortunate parents can’t help it, while there are apparently ladies who willingly wear this perfume.

The longevity and sillage of this drop seem truly excessive for a drugstore scent, as hardly a week goes by without my olfactory nerves being harassed by it in public. It’s this intrusive sweetness, somehow floral, synthetic, that drives me insane.

Dear women, please, please don’t wear this perfume!

ALL TIME FAVOURITE
My absolute favorite fragrance - and by far!

About 1 1/2 years ago, I stumbled upon this perfume by Christina Aguilera by chance. I immediately thought it must be good, as I was not used to anything else from her. However, after a few months, I found the longevity to be too "weak," so I started looking for new scents. Among others:
Bonbon by Viktor & Rolf, La Vie Est Belle by Lancóme, and some perfumes by Rihanna. I must say that I really enjoy all of these, but compared to BY NIGHT, they simply can't hold a candle to it for me.

- Scent -

I would describe it as very sweet - in a seductive way. At first, it's a bit sharper and fruitier, but gradually it becomes sweeter, and you can smell that delicious vanilla note that I love so much. (I'm unfortunately quite bad at describing perfumes, sorry) I also own the shower gel. The mandarin and peach stand out extremely strong in that. On Monday, I ordered the matching body lotion, let's see how that is.
Many say that it's a "teen" scent, but I don't feel that way. I will be turning 23 in June, and some of my friends (some older than me) also think it's very good. But that's probably just a matter of opinion. :)

- Longevity -

By now, I don't smell it as intensely as I used to; my boyfriend thinks it might be because I've "gotten used" to it, so I don't notice it as much anymore. I have no idea if he's right, but it's still quite good. And others notice it too. :D

- Season -

I find it to be more of a scent for the colder days, but I also use it in summer. Although less often, because I prefer body sprays when it's so hot outside, but now and then I still spray it on despite the heat.

- Occasion -

I think it fits every occasion, whether at the office, during lunch, or partying - it works everywhere.

- Bottle -

I would have wished for something more extravagant, as many fragrances from Christina look the same or at least very, very similar. A different shape, more colorful - something like that. It's a bit too boring for me, but okay.

- CONCLUSION -

A WONDERFUL fragrance that you can actually wear anytime. No matter when or where. SIMPLY TOP!! Highly recommended! :)

so beautiful
In the last few days, I have only encountered disappointing fragrances - and I was already doubting my sense of smell.

But today, after 2 fragrance failures, By Night came my way.
I sprayed it on hesitantly - but luckily, I can rely on Christina.

The packaging boasts: "No. 1 Awarded Celebrity Brand" - and that is not an empty promise.

This scent is as alluring and "beautiful" as her namesake song.

Pineapple, mandarin, and apple are subtly fruity, without reminding me of compote.
I also perceive a hint of spicy anise.
Very warming.
The heliotrope shifts, and moss and vanilla are soft and cozy.

A velvety, feminine fragrance that truly fits well for the evening or night.
Additionally, it radiates a gentle, unobtrusive eroticism.

Beautiful!

Indeed, the better Hypnotic Poison and the scent of my disco days. Sexy, vanilla, kind of bad girl-like. I still like it ;-)

I really like it. I smell berries, dark cherry, and on my skin, something dark and smoky. Vanilla stays in the background.

A lovely alternative to the big Hypnotic Poison. Much softer and easier to dose due to the noticeably weaker H & S. A drugstore treasure!
