Not Bal à Versailles
When I read a comment that this fragrance was the same as Bal à Versailles, I couldn't resist searching for a vintage bottle. Re-sniffing just to be sure. Certainly, all but one of the notes in L'Aimant are also in BaV, creating a similar scent envelope, but the resemblance ends there. With its 20 listed notes compared to the other's 5, BaV is like L'Aimant the way diamonds are like cubic zirconia, the way gold plate is like gold. The less complex L'Aimant is louder than BaV. I love Jasmine, Rose and Sandalwood in particular so I'm glad I bought L'Aimant. It smells good. Coty did a good job with this. However, it's not the intricate, involving experience that BaV is. It's a smell-alike and might fool those who don't know a masterpiece when they sniff one. In the drydown L'Aimant's beauty rapidly fades, while Bal à Versailles dries up into glory.
