Random direct hit - and what a one!
Ever since Acqua di Parma hired Cypresso di Toscana, I've been a seeker. Stocks are running low and a replacement has not been in sight yet. Well now there should be it again next year, let's see.
In my search I found many flops but also some treasures, Eau Neuve by Lubin is an example, Cedro the Taormina by AdP, or the Vetivers by Lubin: Itasca or Le Vetiver. And when I bought a new Lubin (Vetiris) it was also that I had a few samples bottled. Basic requirement: Cypress should be inside. And one of the rehearsals was L'Or du Sillage.
Admittedly, I have rarely read an advertising text that would have made me less interested in a scent. There's talk of celebrations on luxury yachts, everything's pretty overexcited.
But the scent blows my mind. I see myself less on the flybridge of a yacht than on the terrace of a small house, somewhere in the south, on a warm evening overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Because of me a luxury yacht can also sail there and pull a golden track (Or du Sillage) behind it in the sunset.
It starts with bergamot and a discreetly sharp peppery note and then the pines (pine trees that sway in the evening wind), immediately after that cypress and cedar are joined by other Mediterranean trees. A perfect chord of sunburnt woods underlaid with citrus in the background - to lie down in. I don't get the base note of suede and patchouli in the nose with the best will in the world, even after hours there is at most a little oakmoss.
Conclusion: a fragrance that actually makes me forget Cypresso di Toscana (at least for a short time), a new favorite in my collection.
