On the trail of the old Sun
Sunset Boulevard by Lamis, which I received when I bought a fragrance at E**. The outer packaging alone gives you an idea of what fragrance it is supposed to be. The old wonderful Sun, which hasn't been around for years, the Jil Sander Sun still exists, but not the old vintage version, which this fragrance by Lamis is clearly based on.
I suspect that this Lamis fragrance is at least 22 (if not more) years old. The carton shows a street surrounded by trees, streetlights to the left and right, with the sun in the foreground at the top. The bottle is square with a white stopper.
When I apply the fragrance, I am irritated: At first I am greeted by aldehydes with a musky note, which doesn't immediately remind me of Sun. But within a few minutes, I land in a dream of fruity sweetness, cream, powdery notes and light-heartedness.
Memories of the past come flooding back. Sunset Boulevard, smells like the vintage Sun version! And I had plenty of them. I wore the good old Sun all the time. Even when I went to bed. I never saw this fragrance as a summer fragrance, but as a winter fragrance.
Juicy fruits coated in cream and sun lotion (which, funnily enough, I never associated with sun cream, even in the original) caress my nose. I close my eyes while it's wet and uncomfortable out there.
Sunset Boulevard is therapy for the nerves, just like Sun. The current Sun is just a hint of a once wonderful fragrance. Sunburn in the past, today you have to stand very close to get a few rays of sunshine, although the current Sun is not bad. Unfortunately, however, it has lost some of its power, heat and passion due to countless reformulations.
Cheers to this dupe!
