Unoffending yet pleasant, interesting enough to wear a lot
Purchased from : Ross
Price paid : $8.99
Format : 3.4 oz bottle
Method : Sprayed onto right arm and chest
I pulled this out and have been wearing this for the last week quite a bit. I usually don't wear the same cologne more than 2x a week because I like to pick a scent based on how I feel. Cuba Black just seemed to fit whatever mood and whatever occasion I happened to be in.
The first note I get from this is "dryer sheet". It smells like a Gain or Snuggle dryer sheet. It's so polite and fresh and light, yet not shy; you can really smell it. It has a really great pepper-wood backbone to it, which helps prop up the other lighter notes. It pretty much stays that way the whole time. I can't say I get several different notes like it says above, but some standouts apart from the peppery-woody notes would be jasmine, lily, and lavender.
It lasts a long time. I usually spray on 4 sprays for each arm, and it will project at 2" for the first 2 hours and then die down to an intimate scent for another four = 6 total hours.
The bottle leaves a lot to be desired because it's both bottle and case combined to create something that won't fall over. You have to detach the bottle from the shell, much like a handgun magazine, and juggle both while you apply. It looks cool on its own, like a pack of cigars, but it's annoying to use. Then the steel case it comes in, you don't want to get rid of it, but you hate that it exists. It's the biggest detractor for me buying more Cuba Platinum bottles.
Despite the bottle, it's absolutely a good blind buy. There is nothing offensive in here to my nose, and is not a risk in the slightest. The only other thing people would complain about is the sillage and projection, which is fairly weak. At the end of the day, it's $8.99, so skip the Starbucks frappe and get yourself something that will last you a year and likely snag some compliments.
It really is a pleasant banger.
