"Snow": an interesting attempt!
No one will be surprised that I am not a great friend of winter as a child of a severely handicapped mother.
For many years, winter always meant: fear of slippery roads, falls and even sleepless nights when snowfalls or even slippery roads were the order of the day.
Even though my mother always saved a part of her annual holiday for such "emergencies", in order not to have to go to work on very bad days: snow and winter have left deep marks on me.
In addition, every onset of winter here in the big city leads to chaos and even the winter road clearance service, which is responsible for our property, must first be reminded of its tasks.
So the work is usually taken up only one day after the snowfall; it is best to stand next to it and remember what to do - similar to the agreed "garden care".
It wasn't until late in the year that I was able to get a certain charm out of winter; I bought sturdy, hard-wearing boots that could also withstand a scratch instead of those made of leather suitable for city and office use.
Today, for example, long walks through our Botanical Garden, with warm-up phases in the "cold" and "warm" greenhouses, are very welcome
Like other perfumers here I approached "Snow" from Demeter Fragrance Library with great curiosity.
How, please, would their snow smell?
My first impression was: there is a lot of dust here!
Is it really possible to smell dust? One can and even sneezing is not missing if necessary.
This dust lies on dry earth: earth around trees and bushes, which is easily solidified by a longer cold phase.
Snow suddenly falls on this base, this dust-covered earth!
Snow in light, quiet flakes that have already absorbed the slightly metallic taste of the anything but clean city air.
The dry, cold earth begins to live again due to the light humidity of the snow: it vibrates slightly and exudes lively freshness!
Not in large, vitalizing fragrances: no, it is the light freshness that would belong to a living environment; we would not cover everything with the consequences of civilization.
(No, it won't be a "green" statement - don't worry!)
"Snow" is certainly a successful attempt to capture a perceived "nothing".
Especially the smell of dust sticks to me the next morning: where have I been at night?
Even with a test during the day, the dust remains for me the most convincing factor of this fragrance.
Because it surrounds me for a few hours; reminds me that after the long-term construction work in my apartment there are still some dirt corners waiting to be thoroughly cleaned
"Snow" is not a portable scent - no, truly not!
But it is a nice attempt to capture something that makes up our daily life: without wanting to glorify or gloss over it.
So this snow has nevertheless gained a certain attention success with me.
But that doesn't change the fact that I much prefer the summer, which is waiting for me outside the windows. Although "Summer in the City" isn't always great and easy.
So the question arises: is there a scent experiment that captures the sun as soberly as this snow?
