"Synthetic" Seduction

Christian Dior, Sauvage. Advertised with famous actor Johnny Depp, walking and driving in the wild with a guitar and ending at a campfire. I really do not associate this scent with that portrayal, but hey, commercials nowadays always are better looking than the actual product. So, be vigilant.

I must say, I was not very interested in Sauvage for a long time. I thought, "Overhyped generic scent, you smell it everywhere". I decided to buy a sample online, just to get to know the famous over-used scent that apparently everyone weares. Sample arrived, sprayed it on and wow. THIS is thé Dior Sauvage? Fascinating, I indeed smelled this so many times when walking in cities or going to restaurants and other places et cetera.

I took some time for this scent to really get used to it and actually liking it. Here I am, sitting in front of my desktop writing the Sauvage review on Parfumo while wearing Sauvage. I must say, this scent is really delicious after a while. I'm not sure for the sillage, but longevity and quality are awesome. Though, people characterize this scent as "synthetic". As a chemist myself, it's just about the molecules that evoke the scent our noses can perceive. Molecule from a plant or created in a lab? Doesn't matter in my opinion. So, a synthetic scent is something created by humans and is therefore not always associated with natural scents, like the ambroxan present in this perfume. Probably that's why people call it synthetic. Funny enough, ambroxan naturally occurs in ambergris that is only obtainable from the digestive tract of sperm whales. Hence it's high price. But it seems, according to literature, that ambroxan can also be synthesized from sclareol. Which is a natural molecule present in clary sage.

My point, nothing really, just for informative or entertaining purposes ;).
In the end, Sauvage is a scent that 'makes the man' and can never go wrong. Only people that are sick of it obviously. Others reviews here that seem to despise the scent is absolutely fine. Your nose is not my nose after all.

Have a nice day.
