Surprise
Who would have thought? Uber is an interesting, appealingly crafted fragrance that knows how to please. Based on the pyramid, I couldn't quite imagine what to expect, but you can already tell from the nearly exploding top note that this is not a half-hearted effort but rather a bold statement.
The opening with coriander strikingly reminds me of Lindt's Christmas chocolate, where the cocoa part has been more or less left out. Nevertheless, it comes across as relatively charmingly gourmand without hitting you over the head with sweetness. The surprise is successful.
Unfortunately, a little later, Uber becomes somewhat rough, slightly dusty, rubbery, and nowhere near as smooth as the opening promised. This rather negative surprise was probably not on anyone's mind.
Fortunately, the fragrance regains its footing and slowly marches back towards the drydown, leading to a wonderfully sweet finale with an excellent trio of patchouli, musk, and amber in ascending order of intensity.
The wickedly wonderful oud is also noticeable, but softly muted in the background, blending in perfectly.
Right here in the base area, I was extremely delighted by the sweet, ambered, almost powdery warmth, and ultimately so positively surprised that I went from an initial score of 7.5 to 7.0 and then settled on an overall score of 8.0 points.
