Smoky soft-florals, spices and suede...
Of all the scents, I've tried so far, composed on this theme - mainly Tuscan Leather, Aoud Leather, La Yuqawam - Golden Boy is the one I like the most, followed by the Montale. The other two have a dominant Raspberry note which goes super-sweet on me that I don't like. But here the violet leaf & saffron blend adds a potent dash of spiciness to the mix which is really quite sexy. A warm cloud of smoky soft-florals, spices and suede - on a creamy-smooth musky vanillic base. Quite linear but with solid performance - lasts all day while projecting beautifully within your space.

Definitely worth a try if you like scents based on this theme or if you think stuff like TL is stupidly overpriced.

Nowhere close to hide...
First of all I'd like to make a remark about the "catchy" text in the fragrance's description.

"Its unique formula contains some of the most exotic spices on earth; saffron, leather, cedarwood, suede, musk and vanilla incenses lift you to heaven."

Well, unless my English fail me, then could someone please explain this to me? With the possible exception of saffron, which in any case is only one and not "some", which are the other "some of the most exotic spices on earth"?
Now, unless the sample I was given was wrongly labeled, I can't help but wonder if the way that leather smells has changed so dramatically since the '70s-'80s. I've read a lot of reviews, and 90% of them described Golden Boy as a fragrance where leather notes shine. But it gets even stranger, as a good deal of this 90% use the words "creamy leather", and this is something I just don't get, since I never thought that these two words could be put together to describe a fragrance. For me, leather can be either oily, pungent, or dominating, but it can't be creamy, cute, or yummy, unless you have a bowl of custard spilled over your leather jacket. Which is not a bad thing per se, but it's an accident by all means, thus not an expected or established way to describe something as odd as "creamy leather".
Now, if we're to talk leather, Trussardi Uomo, Jacomo de Jacomo and Knize Ten smell like leather to me. Golden Boy does not. To my nose, Golden Boy is Dirty English after taking a good bath to remove all the dirt, and thus be transformed from a lousy dirty bastard to a cuddling golden darling. Or like Burberry's Brit Rhythm, with it's tempo pumped up a couple of hundreds BPM. Rausch by J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin could also be the case, given that it had left its leather coat back home in Berlin.
So, unless there's something very wrong going on with my sample, Golden Boy is a quite pleasant, although kinda generic, scent, but it's definitely not leather. Cause if it had come face to face with any of the real leather-clad bad boys (and girls) of past decades, chances are that it would be its own hide decorating their walls. And that would be the closest to real leather it would ever come...

Leatherface's Chilly Soft Fat
I like leathery scents and was therefore excited when I gathered initial information about Golden Boy from Dueto Parfums. Many thanks for the sample to SuiCune, a very rare, interesting fragrance that I had never heard of before, not even from the brand. I did some research online and apart from a similarly named cheap perfume on Amazon and eBay, there is hardly any information or purchasing options. Very under-the-radar. Not that I would buy it (okay, probably directly for under €20^^), it doesn’t convince me 100%, but I would be very interested in the price. However, it is definitely worth a comment, as it belongs to the darkest and most masculine leather perfumes I have had the pleasure of smelling so far!

Initially slightly muted by the violets and saffron, suddenly and shockingly, a deep brown wave of leather overwhelms you, decorated with all sorts of spices. Leather, thyme, and cedar come into full force, and the scent smells expensive. If this is really the cheap fragrance on Amazon, it does not match the scent profile at all. Leather is often found in cheap perfumes like Lamborghini, in bestsellers like One Million, or in flankers like A*Men Pure Leather, but rarely so concentrated and highly effective. There are no embellishments or distractions here, just leather and more leather! Towards the end, the incense note that has been lurking in the background the whole time comes forward, mixed with a delicious vanilla undertone. Beautiful, mysterious, and you don’t know until the end whether it’s one of the good or the bad ones.

It is very strict and straightforwardly dark, almost having a stick up its backside. But still, it has a presence that would come across very well on a serious man. It hardly changes expression and could also be the perfume of a cold-blooded killer who is into leather. Clearly more suited for going out, but also more than usable for a horror Blu-ray day on the leather sofa when it’s storming outside.

The bottle in the picture above doesn’t look spectacular, the sillage is quite close to the body but very strong there. Longevity is good at 8-9 hours, but it could be more lasting!

Overall, a leather insider tip and a perfume that needs a strong, sultry, and mysterious wearer! Not an everyday perfume and please test extensively!

A Spice of a Different Kind
The days are getting shorter and cooler - it's time to turn to the slightly heavier scents. Duetos Golden Boy is one such candidate for the winter season: it is exceptionally spicy, and it revolves around the theme of leather. Golden Boy reminded me of the currently popular Oud fragrances, even though that is not listed. There is a stylistic similarity, and it seems to be related to the very spicy and intensely presented saffron note. Saffron is often found in Oud fragrances, which may explain the association.

In fact, Golden Boy has a scent twin, although perhaps not an identical one: Amber & Spices by Montale. Here and there, the same expansive spice - despite different fragrance pyramids. While Montale's amber notes create a dark background, Golden Boy takes on a leathery character. Leather and spice provide a double punch in Golden Boy - this is not a perfume for every day, at least not for me. Rather robust and loud, Golden Boy would overshadow many other candidates in our perfume shops if it were to be found there. At least in Germany, I have not seen it yet.

Golden Boy has little to soften the spice. A hint of vanilla is noticeable in the heart of the fragrance, and of course, this note adds more volume. Much else gets overshadowed by the spice - lavender and thyme cannot seriously shift the character of the perfume towards Fougère.

After about three hours, Golden Boy runs out of steam a bit - the spice disappears; what remains is a dark, dry leather note, which for me also has hints of smoky amber. On its own, the base is pleasant and restrained - a breath of fresh air after the overwhelming spicy note. The transition might be a bit radical, but I wouldn't see it as a quality flaw.

Golden Boy derives its appeal from a very rarely used spicy note. It can captivate, and in any case, getting to know it is recommended. Whether one looks at Golden Boy or the more readily available Montale scent seems not so crucial to me. Whether one would actually want it is, as always, a matter of personal preference. Personally, I might crave this intense note once or twice a year.

Many thanks to Aqvatic for the sample!

At first, a lovely soft suede scent. Unfortunately, it becomes harsher over time, and from then on, it's not my style anymore. More on the unisex side.

Leather-spicy scent that is not a TL clone. High-dose saffron + violet leaf as a fitting contrast, masking the existing sweetness. Good.

At first, a very rough leather scent, then refined by saffron. A beautifully rounded fragrance. Unfortunately for me: with leather.

For me, it's a feminine version of Tuscan Leather. Does the violet leaf make the difference? I really don't like it at all...
