Palo Santo - The Sacred Wood
Palo Santo, like the frankincense tree, belongs to the family of balsam trees. Its wood has been used for centuries in various ways as incense, a remedy, for jewelry making, etc. Above all, however, Palo Santo is used in aromatherapy, as it is said to have relaxing, mood-enhancing, and concentration-boosting effects.
The perfumer XA has placed the sacred wood at the center of the fragrance, surrounded by a sea of flowers and complemented by the sweetness of tonka and amber. Patchouli adds a delicate earthy note, and even the frankincense seems earthy here.
What makes this scent special and sets it apart from the crowd is the liveliness it seems to possess. Often, the nose is drawn to the wrist, and each time the fragrance is different yet also familiar. New facets constantly unfold from the interplay of the delicate creamy Palo Santo with the flowers and earthy nuances. The sweetness never becomes too much or too intrusive but integrates seamlessly into the harmonious overall picture. XA has even managed to incorporate the rose in such a way that I can't say anything negative about it. And I usually don't like rose in fragrances at all. It is often the deal-breaker when a scent ends up on my "not at all" list.
XA Palo S does not have a real progression. However, due to the liveliness of the fragrance, this is not a major issue.
This scent is complex and has depth. Nevertheless, it is easy to wear and should suit any occasion and any gender.
Despite the high temperatures today during the test, I can still perceive it well after 7 hours. The sillage is just right. Not too much and not too little.
XA Palo S is definitely worth a test and, in my opinion, is another gem from the fragrance house that receives far too little attention.
