Nice, thinner impression of Safar--versatile fresh spicy
English Laundry Notting Hill for Men is an agreeable, fresh spicy mix of citruses, pepper, jasmine, and sandalwood, primarily. It’s just a wee bit sharp but mostly like a citrus-heavy fresh black pepper with sandalwood a sandalwood base, very easy to like, gentlemanly, and seemingly quite practical as it’s not too heavy or too light, not completely fleeting but not too dark, either.

It seems like an homage to the some of the transitional 90s fragrances from 80s men’s powerhouses to more modern offerings, almost immediately reminding me of Ralph Lauren Safari for Men, albeit without the depth or performance, as Notting Hill fades pretty quickly from its opening, not only in terms of performance but in terms of balance / composition, in which it leans lighter and less spicy than Safari.

I found a bottle unboxed for $13 at Marshalls but it’s sold for $40 (in the standard 100ml bottle size) on FragranceX. It still retails for $85, as well. Even the $40 price point feels ever so slightly high, given what we know other fragrances go for; for example, one might be able two buy TWO bottles of comparable fragrances for a little over $40. Still, at $40, it’s not a bad buy; it’s highly versatile for all situations and weather, particularly for men, and in that respect, spending $40 for one fragrance to wear in a lot of situations is a great use of money.

I still prefer Tahitian Waters to this as far as English Laundry offerings and certainly prefer Safari, but Notting Hill is overall a good fragrance.

Safari in the trendy area
At the latest since the comedy of the same name with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, the upscale London district has been on everyone's lips all over the world.

The fragrance reminds me less of English noblesse or a good mood for going out, but rather of Safari by Ralph Lauren, which in turn reflects a mixture of British landed nobility and adventurous spirit. So it's more like the Barbour jackets in the Landrover faction.

Thus "Notting Hill" begins quite classically fresh with a few salvoes of citrus splashes plus a bitter peppery spicy accompaniment. However, it soon becomes clear that the ingredients do not necessarily seem to be the highest quality.
Already early one thinks that one would possibly sniff out a cheap Safari-Dupe from the drugstore range. The English Laundry fragrances are by no means on sale at bargain prices.

A few block rounds later, when the woody notes cross the other ingredients, the eau de parfum becomes much calmer and a little bit more valuable, but one is by no means free from the suspicion of being an independent safari clone. Interestingly, both fragrances share the contents of the base note relatively completely.

However, as long as the original is still available, Notting Hill should not necessarily be an alternative.

The Best English Laundry. Top 5 in my collection over scents like Bleu De Chanel and YSL Y… That’s how much I like this stuff. Good juice.

Nice scent, a good take on Safari. Performance isn’t there which is standard for this house, but the scent embodies the fruity wood it is.

RL Safari on a budget. Some even say Creed Viking. It’s very nice smelling. Smells high quality. All seasons and occasions. Solid 8/10
