Precious Powerhouse From The Eighties
I have good memories of this jewel. I can still remember the time when I used the original Coveri pour Homme, formerly known as Dollar$ (vintage), the bottle was kept in a blue flannel bag and manufactured by Eurocosmesi. At that time, it was so original and disruptive, so leathery, mossy, and ambery, a real compliment getter with beast sillage and longevity, and I was in my twenties.
Right after having finished my precious bottle, I tested and bought Borsalino, which was an uncanny clone of it, yet with abysmal performance, I could barely smell it on my skin half an hour later. I was so disappointed and irritated since the clerk refused to substitute my purchasing after I exited and re-entered the perfume shop. Just because the box was unsealed by the manufacturer, with no plastic peel, and that did not allow her to replace or refund it after I left the shop. Damn, that was weird, I did not remove the peel because it was not there from the very beginning. I was so upset, because of that idiot rule and because of the bed performances.

Nonetheless, back to our time, Coveri pour Homme is now manufactured by Evaflor, and here you are what I get today after the IFRA reformulation... the opening has a bright minty vibe, full of zesty fruits like lemon, grapefruit, and bergamot. Albeit mentioned in the heart notes, there is a blast of blue lavender that kicks in powerfully and dominates the stage. It is a creamy and floral lavender, ain't freshly cut hay as in Pour un Homme by Caron.

Soon come the middle notes, very sophisticated with the floral touch of jasmine, and spicy tone of clove and cumin mix. The heart is a bit balsamic, the resinous and fresh pine's drops are detectable, and a tad green with basil and geranium leaves. I adore this scent now, as then, even if reformulated.

And, to finish, the base notes of vetiver root, cedarwood, and patchouli leaves, typically masculine, are reinforced by synthetic musk, with a touch of sweet amber and vanilla, which will leave an unforgettable scent behind you!

My final take on this, even though Evaflor has reformulated it, it still has excellent sillage and longevity, a sober soul with a touch of romantic flowers and woods. Uncompromisingly masculine. Ideal for both spring and fall season, when the weather is neither too hot nor too cold, wearable for both working and weekend days.

One word : dynamic!
Reviewing the vintage version in a dark blue bottle.

This perfume is more about "that what is not", all that is in between. The sum of it all is just much more than the notes in common. An 80's powerhouse with a mediterranean feel based on moss, amber and leather, but very clean. Opening with lavender and hints of aldehyde-y ozone, followed by sandalwood, cedar, patchouli and geranium and finally drying down on leather and amber with added moss and tonka. Above all these notes lays a subtle "smoky" feel, not like incense but still...
Coveri pur Homme shares some similarities with Givenchy Xeryus but does not feel as dated as many perfumes from this era.

Performance in terms of both sillage and longevity is excellent.

Eighties in a bottle
This very pleasant classic of the low cost perfumery sums up perfectly the spirit of the glorious and opulent Eighties.
In this squared and simple but quite elegant bottle There's an explosion of spices and aromatic- Woody notes giving a strong character to this fragrance.
The opening is fizzy and citrusy with a quite bitter note, then you smell a wonderful accord of balsamic pine, lavender, resins, spices with the unexpected gentle and vibrant jasmine touch .
But on your skin will remain for hours the warm and deep base notes such as the oriental patchouli, the amber, the cedar, the sandalwood with a vanilla sweet accent. The sillage is quite good and makes this scent perfect in the mid season or by night. Sprayed with moderation, this scent can be worn at the office too because is strong but not too heavy and intoxicating, at least in the recent re-formulation.
A little provocation, if I can: evrytime I go to the drugstore of my town selling this brand, I dare to try on my feminine skin this 80es' cult and the result is wonderful! So, why don't steal from your partners' perfume wardrobe this iconic "masculine" fragrance and wear it in winter or by night for a surprising effect, maybe associated to a very feminine and sexy outfit? The glorious Eighties were the years of the excess and of the provocations (just think of Madonna and many other popostars)and I think it's funny to live again just for a day or a night that special atmosphere through a perfume!

Trottolino amoroso
They sit together harmoniously just like every Saturday afternoon, there in the shade of the plane trees and the cathedral. They sit next to each other and not across from one another, seemingly indifferent as they observe the hustle and bustle on the piazza, their eyes hidden behind sunglasses. Anyone hurrying by or just glancing over might almost think they were ignoring each other - and only those who pause can see that he is holding her hand tightly under the table - on it two glasses of Spritz, two mobile phones, and her bag (not new, but once very expensive). Just like every Saturday afternoon at the piazza. And like many more to come.

The children are already out of the house - one in Rome, the other in America - and they naturally miss them. Yet they enjoy Bella figura and Dolcefarniente, two hours every Saturday afternoon. One child will surely call later, the other will too at some point. They look elegant there in their wicker chairs - just how Italian couples over sixty look elegant when sitting with Spritz at the piazza. She, still petite, with large sunglasses, suede moccasins, and a cashmere twinset under her bouclé jacket. He in a navy blue quilted jacket with a pink sweater, good shoes, and a nice watch.

Back then, over thirty years ago, on a Saturday afternoon like this, he rode his Vespa across the piazza - past the girls chatting in front of the cathedral. A bit nervous, as his two best friends had said he wouldn’t dare to invite the prettiest one on the left to dinner. He braked close to her and glanced over his shoulder at the two who were watching him from the shadow of the cathedral. Then he got off and asked if she would like to go out with him. Two years later they got married - in the cathedral at the piazza, where the plane trees stand.

Recently he heard - he is quite sure of it - how a friend of his daughter said to her, 'your dad is still a handsome man.' He told his wife about it later at dinner, and she brushed the gray curls from his forehead, gave him a gentle kiss, and said: 'Yes, Trottolino, you are still a handsome man.' He is not sure if she was making fun of him a bit, but when he checked his belly in the evening in the bathroom, he thought: 'niente male', not bad at all. You can see that satisfaction as he sits there at the piazza, the hand of the love of his life in his. He has never betrayed her.

Enrico Coveri pour Homme tells this story with just one spritz. The Vespa, the Spritz, the cathedral, and the sunglasses. The blue quilted jacket and the plane trees - and her hand in his for so many years. A scent that Italian men liked to wear at the end of the last century: conservative yet with a bit of southern Bunga-Bunga, hesperidic in the opening and a hint of barber, a bit of Fougère in the heart, and then a bit of real man. Smelled today it seems terribly old-fashioned - even in front of the cathedral, where the plane trees stand. And yet full of tenderness and history - and great love on the piazza, somewhere in Italy.

Conclusion: 'Trottolino amoroso' is borrowed from the song 'Vattene amore,' which the cantautore Amedeo Minghi sang in duet with the very young Mietta in 1990, and which has become an evergreen in Italy. Like many lines of the song, 'Trottolino amoroso' is difficult to translate literally - 'Trottolino' is an Italian picture book character in the form of a squirrel - so perhaps very generously it could mean 'Beloved little sparrow.' Lovers in Italy still call each other that. And perhaps that evening over the piazza echoed: 'Magari ti chiamerò, trottolino amoroso, dudu dadadà. Ed il tuo nome sarà il nome di ogni città, di un gattino annaffiato che miagolerà...'

The Unrecognized Genius....
Enrico Coveri, a former model and also active as a stage designer, founded his fashion house in Florence in the 70s and achieved worldwide fame through Milan Fashion Week in 1982. The watch collection that emerged in the 80s also became well-known far beyond Italy and was on par with the Gucci collection, which was considered particularly hip at the time.

Unfortunately, Enrico Coveri passed away in 1990 at the age of 38 from lung cancer.
This was also accompanied by the decline of the fashion house, which is now run by Enrico's 39-year-old nephew.

Francesco Martini Coveri is trying to get the house back on track, and it seems he is succeeding. After all, he was awarded the "2004 Designer of the Year Award" in the States.

Enrico created two world-class fragrances: a "Pour Femme" and a "Pour Homme." Pour Femme was also wearable by men. Unfortunately, these slowly disappeared from the scene after his death. The licenses were bought up by Weruska & Joel, the hyena (please forgive me!!) of the Italian fragrance landscape, and the subsequently produced scents are in oblivion, where they belong.....

Pour Homme came in a box and was additionally packaged in a blue-green felt pouch, similar to Grey Flannel.
The scent was absolutely stunning, unmistakable on one hand, yet imbued with the typical Italian note that also characterized fragrances like Arrogance, Basile, Borsalino, or Soprani. Like Italodisco of the Eighties a la Sabrina..... simply bombastic!
A herb garden with dominating sage that transitions into an early morning Tuscan or Piedmontese mixed forest. It reminds me of vacations at Lake Maggiore during my teenage years, complete with disco. A distinctly green scent with a fresh start and good longevity, but with the huge disadvantage of discontinued production!!!

Great woody-core 80's scent in the style of Azzaro. If you don't like this direction, you'll find it boring old-school annoying. I like it.

Coveri is all about the coniferous vibe - it also exudes a lot of sweet spice and light, lovely lavender wafts. Absolutely seductive!

If it has been reformulated (which I assume), they've done a great job. Rose geranium and cumin are not overpowering this time. Complex.

In the early 80s, it was definitely wearable. Nowadays, it's more for die-hard fans of this genre.

First, a typical Italian spice rack scent with a distinct cumin note. After 2 hours, it softens: musk, patchouli, and balsamic notes dominate.
