A transcendent scent with deep literary roots
Kafka on the Shore, inspired by Murakami's novel of the same name, and crafted by Parisian parfumeur David Chieze, is the only fragrance I have ever finished down to the last drop in the bottle and one of only two I have ever re-ordered, the other being Ormonde Homme. Ormonde Homme is my Winter go-to scent, while Kafka on the Shore is for the rest of the year.
As David messaged me, "I just tried to capture Mr Murakami's work, as you said, in layers, of dreamstates and memories." The core note that brings me back to it again and again is that of a fire on a beach, and it emerges out of the initial notes in the same way memories surge forward in Murakami's excellent novel.
Worth every centime.
