Woody Tea Rose For Rainy Days

Many people have a hard time with rose fragrances. A touch of the queeny pink bloom mixed softly into the rest of the composition is one thing, but a direct and punch-in-the-face rose bomb is a nightmare. Here the rose is bright, acidic to perfection, and slightly honeyed. An almost metallic edge compliments the sharpness of acidity slicing through the sweetness, and a herbaceous character prevents everything from turning into a sweet marmalade. As soon as I sprayed Gandini Rosa Rose, its amusing cloud of rose, magnolia, and cedarwood enveloped me. I knew what it was but bought it, just to be sure. The affordable Rosa Rose boasts the same essential notes that hold up the famous Chloé Eau de perfume.

That being said, Rosa Rose is quite a clear-cut floral scent with Tea rose both in its head and its heart. It starts juicy and crisp; the rose note being enhanced by peony and sweetened by lychee, almost as if you turned rose petals into an edible cake decoration. I am fond of the fresh lychee fruits, which appear on the market just before Xmas, and whose white jelly pulp has a natural rosy flavor.

Before the whole affair smells too cloying, however, Rosa Rose calms down and turns more powdery, reassuring, and smooth. I thought it was a strange waxy rose; but, over time, I learned that “strange waxy rose” means “magnolia”. A tender rose still rises and produces dusty accents on my skin. A dewy magnolia adds a floating bed to lie down the petals. With a touch of peony and lily-of-the-valley, the heart is almost achingly fresh and aquatic. Nothing in this perfume is sweet, not even the alleged amber accord at its base.

Just as it is about to dry, the scent takes on an almost soapy quality, but pleasantly and cleanly. It is the smell of freshly washed skin with a rose-scented soap and dried. However, it never reaches the scent of white flower soap, still giving you the feeling of something pure and uncomplicated. The ultimate stage comes with the queen rose, touching the earth and meeting the woods. Subtle intimations of warm amber, elegant honey-like cedarwood with a tad of pencil shavings vibe and pure blackberries musk make up the fragrance base. The finish is the most heavenly composition of cedar and amber that has ever been experienced on my skin, which envelops me like a warm embrace.

The agreeable thing about Rosa Rose is that while it primarily aimed its marketing presentation at women, there is nothing in the fragrance itself that would make it unsuitable for men. But it’s your choice and your attitude and style that will either sell this dream composition or leave it with a weird aftertaste. It’s elegant and sophisticated and unisex. The various notes blend beautifully, so you don’t get overwhelmed by any of them. It is a beautiful rosy woody fragrance. To be frank, if you are someone who thinks “grandma” when you smell “rose scent”, that’s not the case! So modern, classic, and elegant, but also warm and inviting. It always reminds me of a quiet spring Sunday afternoon in my grandparents’ garden. It’s the rose perfume that wafts around you as you move, arm’s length. The scent stays on my skin for a long time, and I don’t have to spray a lot to smell it. A subtle, floral scent that is great for daywear, Spring is the best season for me. The woody and musky sides make me reach for it on a rainy day. An Italian gem made with precious ingredients.

I based the review on a 100ml bottle I have owned since November 2020.
