Lavender and patchouli oriental unisex perfume
This is a rich and relaxing (lavender) woody oriental with lots of patchouli and some sparkles from the fruits in the drydown. It could have been labelled as unisex, I bet many women would find it masculine, at least in the first stage of the perfume's development. Coffee, woods and vanilla are perceptible too but I can't feel the heliotrope, it isn't a creamy perfume.

I found it at first quite different to everything else in my collection but my partner's reaction to it, which wasn't very welcoming by the way, made me think it does share an aesthetic with Cartier's Le baiser du dragon, one he clearly dislikes. It isn't a contemporary style, more that of the first years of the present century, that puts it a strange space not too young but too old to be considered retro. Still I enjoy it for cool weather days when I want something comforting, not too sweet, green or spicy.

Love at Second Sniff
Seven years ago, I got to know some Georges Rech fragrances here. Muse Poudrée, for example, enchanted me, even though it didn't align with my preferences; I found several others quite successful. Alexandrie mon Amour appealed to me, Mr. Pluto thought it was fantastic, but I was expecting more coffee, and the sample moved on. Now, after years, I received a refill again; I actually wanted to send it off directly since I know the scent. But I took a sniff at the cap, and lo and behold, I was fascinated. So I applied it and headed to the office. My colleague is used to quite a bit from me scent-wise; she certainly doesn't like everything - she never complains, thanks for that - but here she widened her eyes, sniffed at my wrist, and murmured enthusiastically, "great."

Does it smell different today? No, I don't think so. My statement from back then, "Cozy, fruity-sweet lavender-patchouli scent. Soothing with a slight gourmand note. Unfortunately, no coffee. Mr. Pluto was enchanted..." remains largely the same. Today, I perceive the scent as follows: At the beginning, there is a small fruity note, more towards citrus than "red fruits." The lavender has a warm, herbal aura and is noticeable throughout the entire scent development. After a while, heliotrope joins in, slightly powdery, and today I also smell the coffee, but only faintly in the background as a sweetened cappuccino. The whole thing is supported by patchouli, vanilla, and a fine resinous quality from the amber. And now I rate it an 8.5.

Alexandrie mon Amour has a remarkable sillage and longevity; be careful with the dosage, less is more. For me, the scent is a floriental with a slight gourmand touch and clearly a companion for autumn and winter that needs cool temperatures.

And of course, a bottle moved in yesterday after two others had to leave; I want to get below 50. Many thanks to Minigolf for the successful swap.

A Soft but Strong Patchouli
Oh,.... the "Alexandrie mon Amour" by Georges Rech was once again a TK-Maxx 15 Euro per 100ml bottle purchase and once again not a "blind buy dud". Rather, it is a strong, oriental, and somewhat unusual fragrance, probably due to the coffee listed as the heart note. It starts off slightly fougère-like with lavender and citrus. But soon, the floral notes and the bitter coffee scent push to the forefront, and the feigned fougère transforms into a bitter-floral oriental with a slight sweetness and has quite a significant sillage, lasting a long time. However, you can already sense the fine woods, amber, and patchouli. The "base notes" slowly grow into the heart of the fragrance, only to remain perceptible for a very long time much later. A soft, rounded patchouli, lightly warmed "ambered" with a very interesting wood scent projection, woody, almost earthy, as if one is walking through a colorful autumn forest, in sunshine, after it has rained. "Alexandrie Mon Amour" reminds me at this stage of a certain "L'Erbolario" scent. "Amber.....?" (I sometimes can't remember names properly with so many fragrances...). Only the "Rech" scent is much stronger and a bit more bitter. But still, the eau de parfum emits a kind of warmth that not many fragrances have....

Beautiful name. Is it also a beautiful scent? - Revised comment
"Alexandrie mon Amour" (beautiful name, isn't it? The names from GR are sometimes quite poetic) was a gift.

Otherwise, this scent probably wouldn't have ended up with me. Red fruits? Coffee? Those are not the notes that usually attract me. But now it's here, and now it will be tested. And again and again, because: I don't actually dislike it that much.

It starts citrusy-fruity and leaves me guessing in vain: Red fruits - no idea, what could that be? I mean: raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, currants, apples, cherries, there are so many red fruits. So I smell something fruity without getting closer to the secret, along with mandarin, here the freshly peeled skin more than the flesh, and lavender. I really like lavender, so I'm pleased that the lavender scent is relatively pronounced.

The top note rushes by relatively quickly, and the scent becomes much warmer, softer, and sweeter. To be honest: I can't detect coffee, but the vanillic heliotrope is much more noticeable. It now smells quite pleasant - even for me, who usually is at odds with sweet scents; it is warm and enveloping and cozy.

The patchouli in the base note is fortunately not at all damp and earthy, but rather very fittingly soft throughout the scent progression, and the sweetness of the heliotrope is replaced by the sweetness of the duo of vanilla and amber.

All of this is really nice, but it's a bit outside my personal sweetness comfort zone. Unfortunately, just a little, which leads me straight into a dilemma: Do I wear it or do I not wear it? Do I feel comfortable with it or not anymore? I still don't know...

I will probably have to test it again :-).

For now, I will refrain from a judgment - it wouldn't be fair to rate the inherently beautiful scent poorly just because it's a bit too sweet for me personally. Maybe I'll revisit this someday.

This was my original comment. After a few months and a larger number of tests, it has turned out: Not my scent.
Yes, it is warm and cozy, and it’s not the actual sweetness that bothers me.

So what bothers me instead? I increasingly perceive the scent as somehow "overdone." A few bold colors, splat!, energetically and densely slapped onto the canvas. Colorful, loud. Not really bad - not at all. But personally, it's too simple and obvious for me.

The similarity is unmistakable
The fragrance was a blind buy... like so many of my scents! Although the ingredients do not match, I clearly recognize the kinship to Krazy Krizia. The scent starts citrusy and very intense. A true chypre. I don't smell any coffee at all. At the beginning, the lavender joins in with the lemony notes.

Actually, I'm not a fan of lavender. I only like the scent of this plant on my terrace and not on my skin. However, in this fragrance, it plays a subordinate role and is not dominant. Patchouli soon says "hello" and sticks around. This scent is not a true gourmand, as it is not sweet enough. Nevertheless, as a gourmand lover, I find it absolutely wearable and really good. It stands out positively from many other fragrances.

The sillage and longevity can be rated as above average. It lasts more than 12 hours on me. For sure, this fragrance is not something I can wear every day, but for special occasions, it is a highlight, as it is not an everyday scent. The fragrance is definitely worth a test!

Perfect blind swap! I love lavender in fragrances when it's sweetly combined. Masculine lavender meets vanilla milk cream. A dream.

This is the scent of an elegant, mature lady in a well-kept café. A fragrance not for everyone, certainly, but for me, it's something truly special!

Heavy, sweet, autumnal - wintry. The lavender makes the scent bearable. You can smell a bit of coffee. Great to wear in the cold season.
