for discerning minimalists
My best friend and I share many things - humor, casualness, love for animals, generosity.

But when it comes to taste, we are worlds apart.
While I enjoy things that are colorful to the point of kitsch, he only accepts stylish correctness.
His decor is straightforward, without frills, high-priced - and oscillates between white, black, and anthracite. Period.

To gift him something, I have to jump over my own taste shadow and set aside everything childishly playful.
Empathy is required.

In fact, I was able to impress him with Matsushima's beautiful Nullmeridian, so I dared to reach for mat homme as an Easter egg.

This scent is also Asian straight, with a clear line.
The fresh opening of lime and grapefruit leads into well-ordered Japanese bamboo gardens, relaxing the nose and eyes.
The white magnolia is a light splash of color that fits in subtly.
Woody-green aromas form bamboo and sandalwood.

Despite its translucent transparency, mat is well perceivable and very long-lasting.
Yet it always maintains Asian politeness and restraint.

A tasteful scent with class that I would gladly place in my friend's Easter basket.

Not exactly Harakiri - but close
The design of the bottle caught my attention - the ingredients did too. Plus, the good rating from the Parfumos - nothing could go wrong with a blind buy. Well, unfortunately, it did. The scent is unfortunately good for nothing.

The first spray smells relatively fresh - after that, it just smells stale and slightly moldy on the skin. As if the laundry had been left in the drum overnight.

This is already annoying me a bit - it wasn't exactly cheap...

Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto!
Synthetic Summer No. 2 on this cold but sunny autumn day. But while the similar Boss Pure is languishing below the dreaded 50% mark here at Parfumo, this hitherto unknown Japanese fragrance is considered a little insider tip. Crazy world...

The men’s scent from the Japanese designer, who will be designing the outfits & styles for the 2016 Olympics in Tokyo, starts off oily-fruity for me - already here, the first signs of a typical Asian fragrance are crystallizing, but it still has a bit too much energy & power. In this citrus-chemical top note of bamboo, fig & lime, it still comes across as somewhat nonchalant & stiff. But it quickly calms down, fading into an aquatic-green mix of bamboo remnants & floral Asian aspects. By this point, it is the perfect Asian fragrance, full of restraint, soft flowers, wet feeling, transparency & meditative character. Nice & doable for summer - but far from a must-have. I’d rather stick with various, better Kenzos. Because the ghostly-woody base is actually still too transparent for that...

Bottle: the box has the print of a synthetically elegant drink, the bottle is unusual & typically Japanese.
Sillage: suitable for summer, otherwise a wallflower.
Longevity: 4-5 hours is just about what you can expect here.

Conclusion: currently on sale in an infamous online perfumery in the 80 ml variant... a sign that it might not be available much longer? Who knows... but that would be a shame & typical at the same time. Even though it doesn’t entice me at all to make a purchase for spring 2015...

Archetypical Japanese Fragrance
I generally like the scents from Japanese manufacturers and can recognize them immediately by their craftsmanship: they are usually subtle and understated, harmonious, and in a way, they olfactorily replicate the legendary Japanese politeness. A typical example would be "Zen" by Shiseido. The fragrances from "Kenzo" are an exception in this regard, as they tend to be bolder, although they exhibit most of these characteristics.

"Aqua Mat Homme" is immediately recognizable as a "brother" of "Aqua Earth Homme." Only in the top note is there a noticeable difference (perhaps due to the bamboo?); after that, the hesperidic notes take command and do not relinquish it. Fortunately, "Aqua Mat Homme" does not share the truly miserable longevity and sillage of its brother and performs quite well in this aspect.

A scent that truly not everyone wears, and which can either enhance softness and gentleness or soften distinctiveness. It is not exactly a bargain price-wise, but still affordable. A fresh spring and summer fragrance that, unlike many of its mainstream counterparts, does not smell of synthetic grapefruit but rather has an absolutely natural scent.

BAVARIA, 4:30 PM. THE SUN IS BURNING. THE HAIR IS IN PLACE.
or: Three-W-Hairspray for the Skin!

First scent encounter: Mhm ... fresh and fruity, pleasantly aquatic ...
Scent association after just a few minutes: I know this! Hairspray!

If I remember correctly, the hairspray from the hair care product company mentioned above smells like this. However, I only have a negligible amount of hair on my neck and chest, and my hand shows no traces of fur. ;) So it’s not urgently necessary to apply hairspray to these body areas ... not even with a corresponding scent.

Long-lasting? Nope, absolutely not for me. I’m sure I used to smell like that hairspray for much longer.

Aqua Mat Homme is not a bad scent, and a certain "hairdresser aura" is always present in my opinion with aquatic scents, but this is really not how one must smell ... It might only be for absolute aqua scent freaks.

Bavaria. 4:36 PM. The sun is still burning. The hair is still in place. Only Aqua Mat is fading ... ;)
