Molasses Tobacco Vibes
For anyone not from Australia, boronia is a native plant with small drab flowers — very unassuming in appearance but with an incredible sweetly spicy, slightly earthy aroma. This isn’t a soliflore or even a direct interpretation of that scent, more like an effort to capture the vibe.
The opening is a boozy tobacco that rapidly evolves into a sweetly spiced leather and tobacco heart — if there are florals at this stage, they’re background players are best.
(And yes, I know that tobacco isn’t listed as a note, but it’s undeniably present throughout every stage.)
The base is woody, slightly bittersweet caramel (so deep it reminds me of molasses) and that’s where it stays for the next 8ish hours. I’m not generally a gourmand fan and didn’t expect such a strong shift at the end, but it’s unexpectedly addictive — not cloying or tiresome, but dark and rich.
Projection and longevity are both on the high end of moderate, and the scent is completely unisex. I don’t really believe in limiting fragrances by season, but suspect this wears best in cool weather.
