Rice powder
Shunkoin is probably inspired to a zen buddhist temple and it has a milky powdery rice smell to it that comes also with something almost like the plasticky feeling like in Hypnotic poison edt by Dior. It also has something that makes me think of incense or a church. These olfactive hints make me think of weddings and I've reviewed this perfume in my wedding appropriate perfumes video I am linking here below in case you want to watch it.

Diglyceride
Mouth open, eyes closed. Spray cream can ready. Slow, circular movements fill the mouth to the brim, and then, with a broad grin, the contents are devoured. Mmm... A classic among birthday activities.

Alternatively: A Tyrolean country inn. Kaiserschmarrn, freshly served in the pan. Once the delicacy has been consumed, the waistband - accompanied by praises for the fine meal - must be discreetly loosened. A fruit brandy would be just right now. The service takes its time clearing the table, the gaze drifts over the pan. Are there not still a few raisins, almond slivers, and dough remnants in the melted butter? Hard to resist. Quickly, the fork is lifted once more for a final pick.

Or this one: The ice cream parlor around the corner, a hot afternoon. Nut-nougat sundae. The once lovingly arranged masterpiece has long since lost its solid state. Stylishly, you stir the remnants with the graceful ice cream spoon, only to then indulgently sip the emulsion through a straw from the trapezoidal glass.

I know no one who pays tribute to food fats as devotedly as Shunkoin. This scent melts on the skin like a piece of marshmallow in a child's mouth. Fans of strongly sugary scent experiences may find it somewhat limited here. The focus of Shunkoin is clearly on mono- and diglycerides. A gentle, foamy experience, dense and floating at the same time. Once the sprayer is pressed, every escape becomes futile.

Fluis Refinement
Shunkoin is for Flui fairy dust. Ethereal, the scent floats through the air. Precious sensitivity for the nose swings like an invisible companion around the neck. It has an aura of balance and evenness.

Even though there is no pyramid, here are my impressions at a sniff:

Flour, baking powder, vanilla, almonds, sauna wood, light nut. To start off quite unromantically, straightforward and direct.

Shunkoin is as soft as flour, as gently sweet as flour, as fine as flour. So mild like flour and overall a bit like flour, only then a little more liquid under the spray button than flour. XerJoff always plays in the top league in my fragrance shelf, or in other words, in the top compartment. I feel extraordinarily close and connected to the label. I feel so close to Shunkoin. I want to wear it as close to me as possible, without wasting any sillage. I simply love this niche Shunkoin so much.

Shunkoin reminds Flui not only of flour but also of silk. The composition is not only as fine as flour but also as exquisite, noble, and graceful as silk. The presence is sensitive and perceptive, settled from the very beginning.

The powderiness is so adept and light-footed; Shunkoin's powderiness consists of so many exquisite powdery details. The scent is demanding but not overwhelming. It is even very relaxed, but not careless or meager.

Alongside the graceful sweetness of flour, a romantic almond aroma joins in. I wouldn't want to exclude a bit of vanilla from this precious composition. Overall, Shunkoin remains continuously cultivated. A hint of baking powder might not be dismissed either.

Shunkoin floats as if cast in one piece. It is so centered that it is entirely one-dimensional. Fairy dust is indeed fairy dust. Shunkoin is far too beautiful and even to simply be charming. The wood contributes its part. It is soft and fresh, almost springy. It reminds a bit of wood in the sauna, so warm and supple. It makes Shunkoin even more cuddly. Actually, it is more like sawdust than hard wood. Along the way, Shunkoin has also been given a very light nut note.

Shunkoin's design is a horizon of velvet and silk. It is a one-way street, as no fragrance development can be discerned. It should not be interpreted as a drawback; it is simply as beautiful as it is simple. So simple actually, and yet just as winning as monotonous is the perspective on the scent.

Enjoying Tea in the Temple
The "Join the Club" fragrances by Xerjoff are a series that aim to represent certain clubs or places with various thematic directions. With Shunkoin comes a scent that is supposed to reflect the atmosphere of the Japanese Shunkoin Temple.

This temple stands for spirituality and Zen. Associated with it is also the reverence for nature, tranquility, meditation, harmony, and… of course, how could it be otherwise… tea ceremonies, which admittedly caught my attention the most :D

Since the Japanese have the characteristic of striving for perfection in everything they do, this naturally applies to tea ceremonies as well. While we here would prepare tea for ourselves (and our) guests "quickly and easily," this would be an absolute horror for the Japanese. One must adhere to certain rules during the ritual, both in the preparation of the tea and in receiving guests, topics of conversation, the manner in which it is drunk… and and and… of course, it’s not as if one would do all this alone (that would certainly be easier :D), but with guests, it becomes a proper ceremony, and when one has the opportunity, one goes to real tea houses to try to relax a bit from everyday life, while still paying attention to certain rules. Just boiling water quickly and pouring it over tea leaves is simply not done there, and one wouldn’t even prepare tea like that for their enemy :D

Anyway, all of this sounds incredibly interesting, and I also assume that I might smell tea in this fragrance… otherwise, I would be more than disappointed… *sigh*

The Scent:
Great, I smell coffee!!!!
He he he, no, of course not! Although I do quite like the scent of coffee, just to mention that :D
So, at the beginning, I smell a lot of vanilla and associated powdery notes. In addition, I smell incense, which seems to be a component of many temples. But that is also a lovely and calming scent note! In the background, there are soft woods, probably sandalwood.
A very light, sweet chocolatey note seems to emerge, but I assume this comes from the combination of vanilla, wood, and possibly sweet flowers.
Tea… hmm…. to be honest, I hardly smell tea. The creamy background scents might make it seem like matcha tea, but something like black or green tea is not detectable. Well, that’s not so bad, as the fragrance smells quite good anyway, even if it might disappoint one or two people… A little later, I also smell milky-powdery notes alongside the creamy scents.
Much later, starting from the base, the fragrance mainly smells creamy-sweet. One can best smell the vanilla as well as the resinous notes and still a faint, milky matcha note (that was clear,… I’ve been complaining for eons about milk in tea, and then I have to smell milky tea :D But with matcha, that’s okay; milk in black tea is the real evil!! :DD). Yes, Shunkoin is a successful fragrance!

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is quite strong, and the fragrance is already fairly room-filling with just a few sprays.
The longevity is quite long, so it can be smelled from morning to evening. Therefore, I don’t need to specify hours here; it lasts long, long, long :D

The Bottle:
The dark blue bottle is angular and rises trapezoidally. On the front, you can see the "Join the Club" logo, which consists of the initials of the lettering and is embedded in the glass. Additionally, the fragrance name is also visible, touchable in gold. The upper part of the bottle is gilded and leads to the spray head, and the golden cap has the shape of almost all Xerjoff fragrances and resembles the ancient Red Crown of Lower Egypt.

So,… I must admit that I had imagined the fragrance a bit differently. Well, actually, I had imagined it completely differently. I expected resinous notes, yes, that’s something that belongs to a temple and is always part of it. But I honestly didn’t expect vanilla and milky notes. Well, the milky note is probably matcha, and thus actually tea, but when it comes to tea, I thought I would smell conventional tea here, something like black tea, or green tea, or white tea, or red tea, or… oh, you know what I mean :D

Now my text might sound a bit negative regarding the fragrance, so I want to mention that this is not the intention. Because the fragrance actually smells great, especially if you like vanilla and soft, resinous, and creamy notes. After all, a fragrance doesn’t have to be bad just because you had something completely different in mind!

Anyway, the fragrance, despite its soft notes, has quite a strong presence and lasts a long time, making it a fall and especially a winter fragrance for me, which one might want to apply in lesser doses during the day if, for example, one doesn’t want to envelop an entire floor in a large cloud of scent :D

But it is definitely worth recommending, at least to give it a try.

This coconut is definitely still wet behind the ears
Does the JTC collection really deserve such a bad reputation? - Yes, there are definitely more duds than winners.

How does Shunkoin fit into this? - More towards winner for me.

Does Shunkoin come across as Asian, meditative, and relaxing? - Almost not at all... Relaxation on party drugs maybe.

Is it a party scent? - Yes, more or less.

What are the standout notes? - Coconut, almonds, vanilla, green, rough flowers in the background.

Similar perfumes? - e.g. Vittoria Apuana.

Level? - Very sweet, but I don't find it completely cheap.

Target audience? - the younger crowd, girls

Is it worth its price? - Not quite

What comes to mind when I smell Shunkoin? - Unripe, green coconut flesh. Raffaello

How long and how strong is Shunkoin perceivable? - A party hit and very attention-grabbing.

Do I like the flashy style of the collection? - Yes, I think they are great bottles and a cool presentation.

Is Shunkoin maybe too sweet? - Most would say yes, I would not yet.

What are the weaknesses and strengths of the scent? - Too sweet, doesn't fit the theme. Tasty, high quality despite the cheap topic, one of the better coconut scents.

What occasions does the perfume suit? - Beach parties, going out, leisure

Which celebrities could fittingly wear it? - Carmen Geiss, Marilyn Monroe, Kate Upton

Would I recommend it or even buy it? - Only if you have too much money. Also a no for my collection.

In the air it reminds me of tiger’s blood snow cone flavoring, on skin I get a bitter coconut pie-esque flavor. Very powdery.

Meditation in a cherry garden, seriously? I think more of a Japanese sex club, schoolgirl uniforms, and cheap massage oil. Disgusting.

First a bit resinous, then a lovely not too sweet almond-vanilla. Slightly buttery, just a hint of bitterness. Beautiful!
