Classic fougere meets modern oud, dense and rich but smooth
Fougere de Agar is a Dua original blend released in 2023 that’s actually already vaulted, a fittingly cross between a more traditional fougere and a modern oud fragrance, with additional notes of patchouli, geranium, rosewood. The blend of ouds is rich and does not come off particularly animalic or medicinal, but rather a bit smooth and green, blending well with the woody, resinous theme of the mix. Given the ingredients, it unsurprisingly performs extremely well, albeit more so in terms of its density and longevity than its projection, though it projects very well early on during its wear. It fills a great spot in the catalogue for a denser, slightly darker, stereotypically masculine signature scent that’s original to the brand. Wood and Cognac (from 2016) might be next closest thing, and arguably that’s a bit more niche in its boozy, nutty aspects.
That it’s vaulted does make it quite a bit cheaper ($33) than its initial price ($100) whenever the vault is open, usually a few times a year at most, so I certainly recommend that others keep their eyes out for it.
Overall, this is an excellent creation from Dua and one of my favorite recent creations from the house. I’d generally opt to wear it in cooler weather since there are lighter, fresher but still gentlemanly options that (to me) are a bit more befitting a warmer day, but Fougere de Agar is a staple of getting through the winter, especially for occasions that require a bit of gravitas.
