Rich blend of resins, chocolate, and florals, well balanced
Ikiryo In Perpetuum is a rich, multifaceted blend, and I’d be remiss to omit any notes, so the full note list includes amber, lily of the valley, white tea, vanilla, white chocolate, and nightshade. It fittingly has a dense, sweet, floral, chocolately character that is not as floral or as sweet as Chocognac, interestingly, but more modest in those extremes while being comparably rich, so it’s a little easier to wear than Chocognac. Its center is still the amber with a bit of chocolate, with the tea and nightshade / lily of the valley on the periphery. It’s really a fascinating mix, not necessarily for everyone, but it really makes a very positive impression on me on first wearing. It feels better balanced and more wearable than Chocognac, while still have some of the similar indulgences.

In Perpetuum is priced similarly to other Ikiryo perfumes at $130 for 50ml, which is a reasonable value, particularly considering that the two fragrances that I’ve sampled have been quite strong.

Unfortunately Under the Radar
I was so excited when this week in the generous sample letter from dear Ergoproxy, a few of the new Ikiryō fragrances were included for testing. With Drifting, I discovered a great love for this brand just last year. I was also curious about In Perpetuum, as it sounded like a sweeter and cozy fragrance after reading the initial statements. And it is indeed that.

I find it a shame that these special and often very wearable fragrances are only available for purchase in the USA. Perfumology ships to Germany and other European countries without much hassle, and even Vincent himself is said to occasionally step out of his comfort zone regarding international shipping. At least, that's what I've been told. However, having a retailer here would have significant advantages. This is a brand that is so good, yet it still flies quite under the radar.

With In Perpetuum, Vincent Dreamhouse has created a fine, very modern fragrance. This new creation perfectly captures the zeitgeist of sweeter compositions with refined notes. It combines gourmand notes with floral and resinous components into a beautiful, soft, and cuddly whole. It is sweet, but for my personal taste, never too much of a good thing. Added to that is this wonderfully, probably not entirely legal musk that I also sniff in Drifting. A fine balsamic note is typical for both. However, this new creation is warmer, resinous, and woodier and would certainly suit some gentlemen well, even if it might be too sweet for Mr. Polly.

I faintly recognize a bit of similarity to Mousse au Café by Maison des Rêves, but also to the often-praised Oud Save the King by Atkinsons (by the way, I don't detect any oud in that one). Therefore, I believe that In Perpetuum would have very good chances of finding a place in the collection within this community, especially among lovers of sweeter, modern fragrances.

In contrast to many others that I find in the charts, this one is composed more finely despite its strong sillage and sweetness. I do detect the usual suspects, namely Ambroxan and Co., which are supposed to provide a particularly powerful scent trail, but only in homeopathic doses here - hence, it is not a candidate for purchase for me. Nevertheless, it packs a punch, just like my Drifting. So the widely sought-after performance (even though I personally don't find this term very fitting for a perfume) should be guaranteed here.

Vincent, please finally bring your fragrances to Europe.

A heartfelt thank you to Ergoproxy for the lovely surprise with the Ikiryōs.

It's too food-like for me, once again. White chocolate with vanilla. The flowers almost get completely overshadowed. It's a bit overwhelming.

Sweet candy scent, white chocolate,
wrapped in delicious vanilla.
But why does this
inappropriate metallic note interrupt?
What a pity!
