A surprise banger, my ultimate blue
Purchased from : Wal-Mart
Price Paid : $19.99
Format : 1.7 oz with bonus 1.0 oz
Method : sprayed onto top of left hand for review

This is one of those scents that has a story for me. I'll start by reviewing the scent and then I'll tell the story. I reviewed this in a Word Doc the other night.

The sprayer is total garbage but it actually works for this scent. There's not much of a cloud, and instead it's more of a direct squirt with very little side-spray, but that concentration allows the scent to really dig its heels in and start projecting like a monster. It's possible I got a bad atomizer but the little one does it too.

Starts off rough with a very intense screech of squished grapefruit, cardboard, and cat piss, which is usually unbearable with a fresh bottle but dies down quicker after it has macerated for a couple months. Note that you still get this for the first minute or so, but if you possess any kind of patience, you'll get over it. After a minute or so I get some aquatic and ozonic notes along with a little soft hit of ylang ylang. Woody pineapple settles in as the master note at 10 minutes, along with a faint mix of soft ginger-lavender. What's really great about this frag is that it projects like a monster. It's the first offensively great scent I ever experienced as a 30 some year old (I'm late to the game and only used MK products up until this point - honestly could have done worse I guess). I'm getting 3-4" projection here. The drydown at 20 minutes and beyond is the best in life. It brings me pleasure. Dry cedar meets dry and chapped black leather, pineapple, and lavender. It's a forever scent for me. I'd rather wear this than some of the triple digit blues.

This is one of those scents where you try it in the shop, are "meh" about it, and end up forgetting about it and go to the sneaker store. An hour later you're walking around in your new sneakers and it HITS YOU HARD. You might say something like, "what did I spray on this hand?" and you're trying to remember...because it develops so well and is such a performer.

My story was that I tried both a Mark Ecko blue which I fell in love with first sniff, and then on the other hand was the Kenneth Cole Blue. I wandered around for half an hour and figured because I loved the opening of Ecko so much it was that one, so I wandered back, bought it, and was subsequently very disappointed. I came back a couple weeks later and tried them both again and made sure to note which hand was which. I was stunned. I couldn't believe the cat piss Cole frag turned into such a beautiful beast. It's now one of my favorite fragrances and my #1 Mississippi summer dumb reach. It laughs at sweat, too. Just keeps going and going and going. One of the strongest projecting scents I have, period. I get 3 hours out of it, projecting. Then it goes to a pleasant skin scent and waves goodbye at 4 hrs. For twenty bucks at a department store what more do you want. Just re-apply and spend the money you saved on not buying Man Eau Fraisch and get yourself some enchiladas. Every night. And some acid reflux pills. You can afford it now!

I think this is probably better than Man Eau Fraisch. I even sprayed a Dolce & Gabanna Light Blue Intense one night at the store and loved it, but came home, sprayed KC Blue and there was no discernable difference. Money well spent. Cole Blue was even sharper and more aggressive than the D&G. They've done everything right in regards to a blue summer fragrance. Sweat shield, blazing projection, pleasant drydown. They knew where they had to pinch pennies though, and they're not keeping it a secret -- they know you'll have to re-apply if you're gonna go all day, so they even include a pocket sized 30ml for you to carry with you. Aces, baby.

Honestly if you love the fresh blue frags, KC Cole is as good as any of them minus blazing longevity - but hey some of those $150 frags aren't even noticeable past 3 hours anyways, so you're just spending money on hot air.

This is the cheat code of the blue fragrance world.

A very hot summer morning dream
Blue, fresh, citrus, aquatic, summery, morning, and a fragrance that defies the summer heat, all of these descriptions apply perfectly to Blue Kenneth Cole.
A simple yet attractive fragrance composed of a combination of citrus and sea water inside a charming blue bottle. There is nothing else and you do not look for anything else inside this bottle.
If you've tried the famous Versace Man Eau Fraiche and loved it, you'll definitely love this one too. The similarity between them is very strong: the blue color with a waterfall of refreshing citrus and sea water inside a blue bottle.
The fragrance is pure, calm and completely uncomplicated, masculine yet unpretentious, simple yet with a hint of coolness against the summer heat.
The fragrance's performance is certainly not overwhelming, but it's enough to provide a waterfall of freshness for quite a few hours. It's recommended for use on very hot summer mornings to fully live the dream.
I wish life was as simple and pure as this fragrance.

I meeaannnn...
I had really low expectations for this one. We have a sample of it where I work at and figured i should try it after looking at it for close to a year. I kind of liked Vintage Black, also by Kenneth Cole. I thought it was painfully ok. Strong, safe, synthetic, summery. Better options for the money, but still an option within reason. "What the hell" I thought, "KC's Blue can't be much worse".

I guess I was right. It certainly wasn't worse. Surprisingly, it surpassed my expectations.

Now, for some quick grounding. No, this isn't the next big fragrance it never has been, won't ever be. It's main con has become synonymous with Kenneth Cole's entire fragrance line; it's synthetic scent profile. It relies on a very chemical-y base. It's perhaps what gives this fragrance such silige and projection. By no means is this fragrance sophisticated. Not that I would expect that from a fragrance in this price range, but with every praise, honestly and grounding is deserved. ️

Ok now for the fun part; the pros. Despite it's synthetic nature, It's still a pleasant sporty scent. Great for spring and summer! That's probably due to it's fresh and aquatic notes.

It's strong but light. By that I mean it's a very present scent, but not overpowering. Almost like if you combined the stronger, more present nature of KC's Vintage Black, and combined them with the preppy and sporty profile of Polo Blue. Granted those are two fairly plain and generic (not in a bad way) fragrances combined to make a slightly more unique, yet still slightly generic, new fragrance.

I'll keep the bottle short and sweet. It's fine. Classic and timeless. Sure, it's just a cylinder and that's pretty plain and generic. If you like the eccentric nature of bottles from Diesel or Mugler, then geez, you're gonna HATE this one. But if you like Calvin Klein's or Joseph Abboud's philosophy on bottle design, then boy howdy, you're in luck! It's color is nice, I should add. I'm a sucker for that shade of blue. It lays into it's summery and fresh nature. Plus for me.

In all, not a must-have. If you're looking for something more unique than your Polo Blues or Nautica Voyages, then consider this. Butttt, I would probably recommend the previous before this one. More over, consider Tommy Bahama's Maritime collection. THAT'S a fragrance right there.

Tldr yeah smells good.
P.s.
Some people compare it to Versace's Eau Fraîche. This blows Eau Fraîche out of the frickin water. I DON'T like Eau Fraîche. Versace's worst of their current offerings smh.

Kenneth Cole Blue reminds me of a flower garden being warmed by the morning sun after the skies clear from a light rain.
