Do You Really Need a Confirmation?
I came across the perfume R.S.V.P. some time ago while I was looking for something attractive in a perfume shop. It was always there all the other times I went there, but only that time the manually milled wooden box with the brand name engraved caught my attention—RSVP is an initialism derived from the French phrase “Répondez s’il Vous plaît,” meaning “Please respond” to require confirmation of an invitation. Of course, that was the second Kenneth Cole cologne I was trying, I already have the charming Black in my wardrobe. So I sprinkled some perfume on a strip of paper. It was great! And reminded me of an immediate feeling of freedom, the fresh air after a storm, the smell of freshly cut wet grass, an immense field of lavender in bloom, that very manly but at the same time delicate initial explosion, bright and incisive. It furnished me with a pleasant surprise, thanks to the pattern of green, floral and woody accords. I am not surprised at all to see that the nose behind this cologne is the same who created Dunhill’s X-Centric, Boss’s Hugo Now, and Zirh’s Ikon. There is a bit of them into this one.

RSVP welcomes me with a heady blend of spices and citrus, characterized by a touch of black pepper, grapefruit and herbal lavender. I intend this first sensation to awaken the senses and prepare me for the next steps. I get a lot of florals, neither the orris nor the orchid, but the lavender, very aromatic. Lavender is intense, along with a curious sign of green leaves, probably the note of wet grasses. I would define this initial phase as misty, fragrant, and balsamic.

Then, in the central stage, the structure mutates into a floral delicious seasoned with a hint of wood. The heart of the scent becomes creamier. It is powdery, but not like baby powder. The key ingredient here is the orchid which shines, subdued by an iris note, after which it wraps the entire composition in cedar, with his typical dry scent of the sharpener.

The more it dries, the more the wood passes through, but it still has a sweet and fresh scent. For the ultimate step, I come heated by a warm aroma of exotic sandalwood and cashmere wood, joined to the elegant patchouli and earthy vetiver. Not too dirty, I get more florals than expected, along with more musky.

It is an amusing fragrance for my nose. I have the red bottle in the wooden box, not the newer grey one in the cardboard box. Does it smell of any other colony? Yes, it reminds me a little of Burberry London, although it is neither similar nor a clone of that. I am happy to have it in my wardrobe and to use it from time to time during the chilly days of autumn and even winter; still, it is great for nighttime, friendly dinners and events. It is manly, but not super sharp or outdoorsy.

Kenneth Cole is exclusively available at Douglas … why, no one really knows.
If I were allowed to run a small perfumery, I certainly wouldn’t list R.S.V.P. and wouldn’t offer it to my customers even under the threat of a beating …

Why I am relatively angry: R.S.V.P. is for me one of the most poorly developed productions I have sniffed in a long time.
It starts like a jumble of rampaging scent molecules, then develops into something totally buttery and subsequently turns into a synthetic fruit cocktail with wood splinters. Moreover, there’s something in there that pinches my nose. I still remember fragrances from the 90s that might have inspired this recipe.

R.S.V.P. somehow wants too much and unfortunately achieves nothing. It wants to be sweet, fruity, and woody at the same time, but comes across as muddled and indecisive. However, it has one positive aspect: the longevity is thankfully quite limited - although even that feels too long for me.

The ingredients or components can certainly be seen according to the list and promise the most exquisite scent enjoyment. But what has been made from them is simply cheap … a shame for the raw materials!

I used to like it better
So, and here's another one, and now for Kenneth Cole's "R.S.V.P." Kenneth Cole, the brand that's available at the turquoise stores. "R.S.V.P." (what does that even stand for) can be purchased in a wooden box, I believe? That might be fitting, in case of dissatisfaction, you can bury it in there again. ;)

No, just kidding, it's not that bad. I still had a sample lying around. I don't know how many times I've tested "R.S.V.P." in the turquoise store. Always liked it, but never bought it. Why?

Well, it was probably for the best. Now while testing, I have to say that I wouldn't buy it anymore. Too simple, too cheap, too familiar, really. Nothing special. It smells like many other generic perfumes. I can't even pick out the notes. The average buyer will find pleasure in this. Maybe a bit of cedar, with a touch of sweetness, I can't really decipher it all.

No, I remembered it differently and much better.

Even worse is that Jon Bon Jovi is the face of it. Although? Worse? Not really... ;)

strange...
Hey guys,

this is unfortunately a completely overpriced and low-quality product!

...a non-existent price/performance ratio...

the scent itself is not bad, but it smells extremely like a cheap aftershave from Rossmann.

To demand such a hefty price for this is, in my opinion, a real cheek!
Hey, have you ever heard of customer orientation? Man, we must be really unfortunate...

Well... you can release whatever you want, but you won't get a cent from me for this insignificant 0815 but also not bad smelling "eau de toilette"!

There will always be buyers for such things... but to stop this disaster, people should not buy such overpriced and low-quality goods!

The scent is okay... nothing intrusive or unpleasant smelling... the fragrance gives the feeling of a fresh wet shave!

I mean, if someone doesn't care about money anyway, they can go ahead and buy it, it's not that bad! :D

Still, it's somehow cheeky to demand so much money for this! (45€ for 50ml)

In the low-price sector, there are too many better options. This scent can't compete!

A Jil Sander Sun, which smells significantly more aromatic than this brew, is surprisingly cheaper! (max. 40€ for 125ml!!!)

This can't be right! What's going on with Kenneth Cole or better said Frank Voelkl???

Well... I won't be fooled by this "concept"... haha ;)

Second Comment. Drinking Sangria instead of tasting Red Wine.
I deleted my original comment. My rating started with initial enthusiasm at 80%, then dropped to 70%. I don't know what got into me.
The actual heart note is beautiful and pleasant; I described it as "my mulled wine stand in the forest."
There are woody notes present, and that's where the downfall begins, also very sweet, reminiscent of cinnamon or mulled wine.
As long as the brew remains balanced, it's still a matter of "taste." Although not very refined, I found it "quaffable."
Unfortunately, the next day only this mulled wine-cinnamon-clove sweet note remains. And with such a transformation into another, unfortunately not pleasant direction, I find the perfume simply bad and cheaply made.
You can debate whether it's bad; the fact that it's cheap is confirmed by the market.

It is indeed as I wrote in my first comment: not tasting red wine, but drinking sangria. With a thick head and a queasy feeling the next day.

It's woodsy like cedar, wet grass, but it's got the warmth of amber shining through. It's like a sunny day in a meadow after it rained. WOW!

A little spicy, a little fruity, a little woody. A bit of everything, not enough of anything.

I notice similarities with Eternity Men. Herbaceous, tangy, spicy green, and wood as the base. The patchouli somehow gets lost. Passable.
