A flashback
This will only be my second review. I don't usually have the time to write reviews, as I don't have enough specialist knowledge and can't/wouldn't like to talk about the individual fragrance notes and how they interact. I'll leave that to the members with more knowledge.
I'm just describing what went through my mind when I sniffed this fragrance. If this is not desired, please delete.
Colonia Napoletana, I had you in my letterbox yesterday as a bottling. A thank you to the Parfumo-Collega #Timo18
I had to spray you directly on my forearm in the early evening, lay on the couch and sniffed my forearm...after a short time something happened...
Colonia Napoletana....you triggered something in me that no other perfume has ever done before! A small explosion in my brain, memories of an unforgettable vacation in southern Italy, the smells, the tastes, and a flood of images in my head.
I have to catch up. A long, long time ago, UncleToto, who was still young at the time, was sitting in a restaurant with his best friend. My best friend is Italian, no wait, he's southern Italian, that's what he's all about, sono dal Sud. It was the beginning of May, we were chatting about this and that, and I said that I was on vacation for the last 3 weeks in May, I was exhausted after a long period of hard work. My boyfriend says he still has some vacation time left that has to go, and he asks at work if he can get time off. If it works out, I should go with him to his old home. "You've never been down here, you only know the north. Everything is different here" I think, yes...why not...???...? The next morning my cell phone rings "Amico mio, tutto chiaro, andiamo al sud". A few days later, we set off....Departure in the evening, about 70km north of Frankfurt on the highway, in the left lane, through the night, everyone had an infusion of delicious Kimbo Cafè in their arms.
At sunrise, border to Bella Italia, Benvenuti in Italia. Totally clichéd :-)
Immediately change the SIM card in the cell phone (that was before Smartfon and Co.), La Famiglia is informed...siamo alla via. Pit stop at the first brother's place near Milan, slept for a few hours in his pizzeria, ate porny pizzas, we were supposed to go further south. No, brother 2 is calling, you have to eat at my place tonight. Okay, we're going to Piacenza.
My friend's sister-in-law, a true Neapolitan, had a German in the house for the first time, and the German... look, he can even speak Italian. We're sitting at the table, I'm served a proper plate of pasta...MANGIA MANGIA!!!
UncleToto takes the fork in his hand, brings the full fork to his mouth... Bhm...all conversations fall silent, everyone looks at me, I have the music from Jaws in my ear, the pasta in my mouth, indescribably delicious, pasta porn, I say how brilliantly she cooked.
HE LOVES IT..... sister-in-law jumps up from her chair, pulls me up, hugs me and says "You need a Neapolitan, I'll get you one" Incredibly nice and warm people.
Late in the evening, after a new kimbo infusion had been inserted, we set off. Through the night again. Early morning arrival in my friend's home village in the province of Salerno, between Sarno and Nocera, in the middle of the large valley between Mount Vesuvius and the Monti Lattari. An absolute agricultural area, I was in the home of San Marzano tomatoes, a tomato paradise.
I get out of the car and immediately smell the scents of the agricultural region. In May, everything was still in full bloom and color, not yet withered by the sun.
I smelled the lemon trees from the neighboring property, the herbs in the courtyard, subtly tart and citrusy, green and fresh.
Colonia Napoletana, that's exactly what your opening reminds me of. I've never had that with any other Italo-Paföng!
Colonia Napoletana, I remember 2 situations where I imagined that you smelled exactly as it did in those moments.
One evening I was so full, I said I had to go for a walk, we walked through the village, on the edge of the village long rows of pine trees, cypresses, chestnut trees, olive trees, lemon trees, laurel trees, countless herbs. That's exactly how you smell when the citrusy top note has receded. That evening, near-death experience...we walked past the house of one of my friend's school friends, were invited in, and were immediately served plates and a frittata di spaghetti...I survived!
One morning my friend said we were going to the Amalfi Coast, to the coastal towns. We stopped halfway up the Monti Lattari, got out of the car and I enjoyed this indescribably beautiful panorama, an orgasm for my eyes. And right there is the scent of Colonia Napoletana again, just as I remember it, up there the air was not yet enriched with the salty scent of the sea, it was just fresh-green-pleasantly refreshing.
Colonia Napoletana, these two moments and you alone, they fit like a glove! Should anyone ask me in the future whether I associate a fragrance, a Paföng, with Italy, YAAAA...YOU! After this flashback, the only answer for me is YOU.
Colonia Napoletana, you are not a killer fragrance, you will certainly never become a hype perfume that is pushed through the net by Youtubers, you are not a sillage monster, not a howler monkey drumming his fists on his chest and screaming "Here I am...Go smell ME"!
You're not for braggarts and show-offs. You are something very fine and discreet!
Actually, your price of 260 EUR is 100 EUR too high...but in your case, I very probably won't care at all. As I'm typing this, I had to pick up the bottle again, spray it on my arm, and my nose is constantly sticking to my forearm. I haven't yet worked out whether you're an EdC, EdT or EdP, but your longevity is certainly longer than other Italo-Colognes, you can easily keep up with the standard fragrances.
