Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Agarwood?
Today was an eventful day for me regarding sandalwood. Thanks to a lovely acquaintance from Parfumo, I had the pleasure of smelling real sandalwood and even burning it, along with receiving an extremely generous sample of this fragrance. At first, I found it a bit odd, strange. In the opening, sandalwood is already very dominant, but the slight sharpness from the cedar makes the whole thing feel a bit distorted. It struck me as somewhat strange. Over time, the sandalwood develops beautifully and comes very close to the scent of real, ground sandalwood. Thus, we have a rather soft, sweet fragrance here that I even find somewhat feminine. Oud is rather subtly incorporated, seemingly in combination with saffron, which makes it somewhat unpleasant for me. However, in this fragrance, it is still quite bearable, and I don't have to wash it off at least.
In conclusion, this results in a fairly pleasant, not very spectacular but particularly sandalwood-heavy fragrance.

Oud - the gentle guardian in the forest
My last perfume meeting gifted me my first Oud fragrance. (Excited as a kid in a candy store :)) I was completely unbiased, as I had never heard of the label La Collina Toscana, but this wood creation simply blew me away.
I must say that I am not yet an Oud expert, but I am slowly but surely starting to explore the creations, including the Arabic-inspired Aoud-Rose variants.

At first, it all sounds super bulky, 3 woods at once and nothing else? Although it only contains wood, I don't find it to be a pure wood scent; there are indeed more nuances, very subtle, very unobtrusive, very discreet.

The 3 woods do not make a big development from one note to another; instead, an entirely unique symbiosis of the 3 woods emerges immediately, they unite and essentially reinvent themselves.

The Oud holds everything together. However, it is subtle and not an Oud that would make you want to run away immediately. It is the guardian in an enchanted forest, gentle, peaceful without violence. It does not need to mark its territory with loud roaring; it convinces through its simple presence.

My nose detects a somewhat leather-like note in the interplay of the 3 woods. It is a light touch, perhaps a leather nuance, wonderfully subtle and dignified, floating in the calm forest, in pure nature.

There is a very light hint of sweetness present. I assume that is the sandalwood. It peeks out cautiously from the spicy forest. It is almost a balsamic facet that tries to lift itself very gently. However, the scent is not toothless, not at all. It just doesn’t bark, but it still has a lot of strength behind it. It is a very deep forest, but not one that wants to swallow you; it would still show you the way if you were to get lost in its darkness.

The Oud takes on responsibility and watches over everything until the end, ensuring that the core character remains intact. This is a woody and spicy, self-contained composition. As the woods unite, a somewhat, how should I put it, sour note emerges in the further development of the scent. This is something that some might reject, but here I find it fits well into the overall concept. Oud with a balsamic touch; perhaps it is precisely this combination that gives rise to the slightly sour aspect.

Longevity and sillage speak for themselves here, even if the sillage is not 100%, that’s actually quite good. You can feel the high oil content, so the scent stays on the skin but can unfold with depth and impact.

Overall, I find this to be a gentle, multifaceted, and unobtrusive Oud that somehow suits me perfectly. The subtle nuances of leather and sweetness emerging from 3 woods is something that wonderfully characterizes LDM.

In the Wooden Drawer
A few years ago, one of my many great-aunts passed away. I never had much to do with her, but since she was one of those increasingly rare old ladies who always - really always - carried a packet of cat tongues in her handbag in case she needed to bribe a little girl, she remains a fond memory for me.

When she died, it was up to us to clear out her house, and in the process, I snagged an old-fashioned coffee grinder - wooden, with a brass-colored crank and a small drawer where the freshly ground coffee trickles down. Of course, she hadn't used the good piece in years. The wood was dull, the coffee crumbs in the grinder and the fine powder remnants in the drawer had lost all aroma. The grinder now sits in my kitchen, more as decoration than for use. When you open the drawer, which I have since cleaned as best as I could, the scent of "Loggia dei Mercanti" wafts out: old, long-dead wood and stale coffee grounds. And another note that must be Oud - unfortunately, I lack the experience to identify it.

The scent is rounded, no question about it. It is warm too, and truly woody - but in a way one would expect in an antique shop.

I don't find the scent bad in the sense of "poorly made," but it is unbearable for me personally. I had ordered the sample primarily because I hoped to find in that pure wood scent a fragrance for the office that wouldn't be overwhelming and would suit every situation. However, with "Loggia dei Mercanti," I would always fear that I smell as if I hadn't washed my hair after cleaning up in the attic.

Noble Wood Box
Let me say this right away. If you don't like woody scents and especially Oud, you can skip reading further, because LdM combines these notes into a beautiful overall concept.

LdM is more of a soliflore, as all the fragrance components are clearly recognizable throughout the entire scent journey, but they take turns stepping slightly more into the foreground.

Although Oud is listed as a base note, it rather defines the heart note for me, and sandalwood is clearly responsible for the fragrance's conclusion.

LdM can best be compared to a beautiful noble wood box. It is mainly made of sandalwood and adorned with beautiful inlays of cedar. Inside, the Oud is kept as a special treasure.

Here, I thank my sweetheart for the lovely Valentine's Day gift.

If you love the pissy aspect in sandalwood, here they've found the scientific formula to make it last forever.

Snow falling on cedars, just without the snow! Very woody, yet very rounded, with only a hint of hidden light sweetness! Beautiful!

A blend of sandalwood and skewed oud. There's a hint of synthetic suspicion creeping in, and it becomes annoyingly animalic-urine-like.

Wait and see.. for there is a hidden beauty within. Hints of soft salted caramel on velvety sandalwood. Close to the skin, because. alluring.

Very well-crafted sandalwood scent with a robust cedar opening. I hardly notice the oud, but that's okay, sandalwood is the King.

Dry woody with hints of incense and dried fruits. I don't smell any oud here at all. Quite colorless and dull.

A start of green fig is followed by woody notes, initially dry, then soapy, and finally resinous-sweet. Not a bad scent!

Sour-alcoholic at first, then the woods come through, still sour. I can't make anything of it, ends up smelling a bit like pee.
