Intoxicating smoky vanilla
About 2 years ago I read an interview with Christopher Brosius at Cafleurebon. About 7 Billion Hearts he said: "That perfume was actually inspired by a whiff I had several years ago of an original bottle of Shalimar which dated back to the early 20’s. It was gorgeous and I thought well this is how a vanilla perfume should smell".

First of all I love Shalimar and I love the smokiness of the older versions. So from that day I was dying to try 7BH and the moment I tried it I wasn't disappointed. Imho he succeeded big time in capturing the intoxicating first whiff I get from the vintage versions (although I never smelled the very first version).

The opening is somewhat musty (even faintly like mushrooms) and medicinal (I can see that this easily could be perceived as synthetic), but 7BH settles down into a warm, dark, sweet (but not too sweet), intoxicating, smoky and somewhat lineair vanilla. However, it is somewhat quirky and I can definitely understand why this would be a love/ hate perfume. I wouldn't recommend blind buying.

I for one think CB is a genius making these minimalistic and high quality scents as they actually stir my emotions. I adore 7 Billion Hearts and I would love to own a bottle of the water perfume. I think it's insanely expensive though, but I can see myself buying a bottle in the future. Or even better: receive it as a gift....

Sultry & Unique
7 Billion opens with the strong medicinal smell of amber that dissapates after a few minutes. The composition is very resinous along with tonka bean and vanilla. There is a smokey, leathery vibe to this as well. I adore this scent somehow, even though it isn't typical of what I generally go for. Like most of the CB Perfumes I've tried, this one sits close and doesn't project in a big way. This scent is at it's best on a warm day when the resins and vanilla blossom on the skin.

Somebody loves us all
Opinions about Christopher Brosius can certainly be divided. Some appreciate him for his uncompromising nature and creativity, love him for the courage to create fragrances that connect with everyday situations, beautiful memories, feelings, or special moments, often realizing and resurrecting them in a photorealistic way - while others wonder who is supposed to wear such things and why, and how one can even do that, "that's just stink and not perfume!", etc. :-)

"7 Billion Hearts" feels very much at home in this tension and fits perfectly between these poles. The concept, the idea, and the statement are very interesting and highly relevant: By the turn of the year 2012/3, more than 7 billion people were already living on this planet, and the numbers continue to rise rapidly. In Christopher Brosius' interpretation, these are primarily 7 billion hearts and souls with their hopes and dreams, their wishes and their longing for closeness, their yearning for tenderness and love, their need for warmth and security.

For Brosius, this desire, this wish is ideally embodied by vanilla - not the bright, sweet, artificial vanilla that is currently ubiquitous, but the deep, heavy, almost smoky natural vanilla of the highest quality and concentration. And with that, this fragrance is already described and presents itself accordingly: rich, deep, warm, embracing, and comforting through a wonderful vanilla of this described quality in combination with smoky notes. Everything is very beautiful, very warm, in great quality, very appealing, and almost touching emotionally and lovingly - however, one not insignificant point: as much as I am drawn to this fragrance and its conception from exactly the perspectives expressed by Brosius and his excellent execution, I would never entertain the far-fetched idea of wearing this scent as a perfume... I always enjoy smelling it and following the images in my head and the feelings it evokes, but I certainly do not want to smell like it.

This scent fascinates me time and again. It truly has a unique smell of old ships and damp forest floor :)))

Citrus notes, resin, and vanilla blend into a cinnamon-scented oil - unfortunately not a perfume, just a smell.

Deep, earthy scent. A bit musty. Smoky and sweet resins, tobacco & tonka. All tied together by rather unsweet vanilla. Monotonous.
