That's an announcement
I would never have thought that I would dedicate my first review to a fragrance that I don't even own (!) yet. But I'm sitting here right now with my test strip from the big D. around the corner and my good-smelling wrist and have to give my two cents.
First of all, we were in the perfumery in question, actually just for you, lipsticks, not my area at all, so I made my way to the men's perfume as quickly as possible.
Eau d'Ombré Leather by Tom Ford caught my eye straight away, I hadn't smelled it yet, so off I went to the tester. At that moment, the cashier and I crossed paths and she immediately said: "If you like it, go and try MCM Diamond, it came in this week, I didn't expect how good it smells."
Unsuspecting, I walked along the shelf until I spotted the flanker.
I only knew MCM from the fashion world and since I'm not a fan of their stuff, my first thought was "Ok, what is she putting on me now? Overpriced designer"-
i thought to myself. Far from it. According to her statement, releases from the company have been rather disappointing in the past, so of course I don't really have any expertise to confirm that.
Well, let's get to the fragrance :
The opening begins with a fresh mineral woody note, very clear oud wood vibes.
It's not listed, but I can smell the cardamom that makes Oud Wood so special. Not a trace of cappuccino.
The first spray went on the tester, the second on my wrist. Despite 30 degrees, but only because I also like to wear Oud Wood in midsummer.
After about 15 minutes, the fragrance began to develop, it became sweeter,
Lavender + plum, really beautifully realized. The oud, which is also mentioned here, definitely resonates in the background. Not too animalic but already more present than I would have expected.
Up to this point, I thought, wow, brave, -this thing is not a classic crowdpleaser
- it's edgy, it wants to offend (!)
*i don't want to say too much about sillage and longevity, I simply haven't tested the fragrance extensively enough for that.
Meanwhile, we were still busy in the shopping center and on the way to the exit, we passed the big D. again, I had to know what the thing should cost. So we went back in and checked the prices. "The big one" 75 ml a little over 100, somehow I feared more. But in the end, everyone has to know for themselves. Fortunately, there are also smaller sizes.
Back to the fragrance. I had the feeling that this initial sweetness was now a little more organized. The lavender has faded into the background a little, but the sweetness of the plum definitely remains present with the woody-animalic notes.
We spent the rest of the day at the beach, went for a swim and enjoyed the pleasant warmth of the sun. I almost forgot that we were in the perfumery today and found the tester in my pocket on the way home.
The scent came straight to my nose and the association was immediate (!)
- the piece smells like the bottle looks - like a luxurious handbag.
Sweet, fine leather - freshly ordered - stored in the same rooms where all the beautiful treasures are kept - tonka, oud and sweet-fruity plums.
I really don't want to praise this piece so highly yet, but I really like it.
Has the potential to become my fall / winter 2024 favorite.
And to my initial words regarding the announcement :
This piece does exactly what the great TF has long since missed out on.
It throws highly sought-after DNA's (plum, oud) finely tuned into a "backpack", with solid durability and a more than complex DNA for the price for a lower price level corresponding to the brand.
Finally, I would also like to address the topic of unisex :
If you, as a woman, like oud fragrances (no cowshed), then yes.
If you don't like them, test it anyway and see if you could tolerate it until DD, reduces the fragrance experience but is always worth it in DD.
For the gentlemen, go for it if you like Oud Wood - if you want it to be much more animalic, try it out.
Thank you for reading this far.
I hope this narrative structure was not too exhausting for you, but helpful. Best regards !
