The sweet M3T4M0RPH ԅ(≖‿≖ԅ)
With Vurv being another budget sub-brand of Lattafa (or so I've heard), it's no wonder that this fragrance has a very similar backbone to that of the original Khamrah, and to a lesser extent, some of the other Kilian takes like Zimaya's Sharaf Blend. To me, the resemblance of the sweet woody amber heart was unmistakable. However, that's not all it has. Despite its meager price, this fragrance is such a shape-shifter that it's really difficult to pin it at times. To me, it's the very definition of a hybrid metamorph, combining elements from Khamrah, 1 Million Prive, Baldessarini edc, Legend Intense, Sauvage edt and a sweet tea-ish musk from a fragrance I can't even recall atm. Bits of every fragrance pop up now and again - especially when sprayed under the clothing - leaving me either smiling, confused or regretful that I've just wasted money on another redundant scent. But is it really as good as the ratings make it seem? Let's find out.
Firstly, the box is kinda cheap. Kinda really cheap. Basically just a cardboard cut-out with the bottle sitting loosely inside and a sleeve that slides down over both. However, the bottle itself actually isn't bad. The smooth black finish is definitely somewhat of a fingerprint magnet and came a tiny bit scuffed, but the cap clicks on and the atomizer is VERY good for a budget fragrance. That was a pleasant surprise. The overall shape isn't great though. Reminds me of a slimmer version of the Mont Blanc Legend series of bottles, though not as easy to hold. The cap is reminiscent of Qaed al Fursan, albeit better, heavier, squished and not magnetized. The entire package does feel pretty sturdy in the hands though and nothing jiggles or wobbles. Giggity.
On skin, the opening spray is a super lovely sweet red apple and musk from Legend Intense combining with the warm orange top from Baldessarini edc. The woody amber is also noticeable in the background, but nowhere near as loud and screechy as most middle eastern dupes these days. Literally seconds later, the scent morphs into the bubblegum from 1 Million Prive and lulls you into a false sense of satisfied placation. Wonderful. So it's a clone then. Well, NO. Because another 30 seconds later, here comes the woody amber base of Khamrah out in full force combining with the warm lavender heart of Sauvage to change the fragrance again, albeit not exactly for the better or worse. It's a legit mind-f** believe me.
After that, things start to settle into this melting pot blend of sweet who-knows-what that mostly vacillates between Khamrah and 1 Million Prive, depending on which compounds decide to fly off of the skin at any given moment. One time while wearing a good 8 sprays under the skin, I could've SWORN that I was wearing the Paco outright as it permeated through my sweater and into my surrounding scent cloud about 2 hours in. So I pulled up my sleeve, sniffed it up close and there was Khamrah with a bit of that Sauvage/Legend lavender wafting back at me. I honestly didn't know how to feel. Amused? Confused? Fused to the muse I think.
And the party doesn't stop there. As it dries down, the woody amber becomes a bit more scratchy and obvious in the sillage, while the fruitiness dies down a bit. The scent is no less pleasant at a distance though, and more of Legend Intense pops up now and again. It's a rollercoaster is all I'll say. And even as I'm writing this, I can smell 1 Million Prive again. Insane.
Anyway, getting to the important bit, since this stuff is still relatively dirt cheap, is it redundant if you already have Khamrah or something similar? My immediate response would be yes, but it also has a few interesting and more mass-appealing twists in it that I actually prefer myself. In fact, if it were a choice between Khamrah and this one, I'd likely choose this one every time. And not just because the bottle is significantly easier to hold. But is it a great clone of 1 Million Prive? Once again, my immediate response would be no; but for me, it actually scratches the itch and the longevity is certainly there. It's also far more interesting and has a better atomizer. Strangely enough, despite the Vurv Parfums website listed on the box no longer existing, my bottle was stamped as made in 2024 so maybe they finally threw in the towel this year? If so, the value will only increase with time.
So I suppose the bottom line is that I do like it. At its very core it's certainly a modern sweet woody amber (a style of fragrance that I generally despise), but it's also not exactly a synthetic punch to the face and such a metamorph that it keeps things interesting. Are the unusually high ratings across platforms justified? Personally I don't think so...but it's close, considering the price. Not a fan of the cheap presentation, but the bottle really isn't bad and the scent DOES get better with time in the bottle. Can't say that it's a better straight up dupe of 1M Prive than PC's Milano Prive; but if you're looking for more of a hybrid, this could satisfy the fix. It did for me. An autumn and winter scent through and through. >>>
