underrated clean blackcurrant
I'm surprised this gets so many negative reviews. Perhaps it just likes me. I get a pleasant coolness throughout, enhanced by a surprisingly true blackcurrant note. I've tried many scents on the basis of their blackcurrant notes and have been disappointed when the blackcurrant is either weak, hints at urine, or smells like I'm wearing blackcurrant pastilles. This goes in an entirely different direction than the original 4711 but, to my neroli-hating nose, it's a better one.

New Freshness for Grandma!
On July 4, 2011, 4711 reinvented itself - that's probably the advertising message of the new 4711 launched 4 days ago! Gone is the old grandma image: because today's grandmas want something new. For a long time, they have no use for the everyday scent of their mothers.

Accordingly, it has been modernized: the typical neroli note, which shapes the - bad - image of 4711, has been completely removed. Instead, there are fresh, citrus notes - somewhat powdery, a bit lemony and juicy, and there's also a touch of softness.

The three-part fragrance pyramid listed above - wherever it may come from - I consider pure advertising; hardly anything in it is true. Also, the Nouveau Cologne is and remains a Cologne water, consisting solely of top notes! After half an hour, the refreshment is over, and that’s how it should be for a real Cologne water.

I got to know Nouveau Cologne today at Kaufhof at Alex in Berlin, where it is presented quite elaborately with a large display and promoters, aimed at perhaps a not-so-wealthy audience. This naturally invites some mockery: 4711 Nouveau Cologne - an Acqua di Parma for the poor? Please forgive my arrogance; perhaps it’s just the envy of someone who usually spends significantly more on a perfume. Prices starting at €9.95 are of course unbeatable, but they also show that there is not only room for upward movement, but also downward. In fact, one can bring a pleasantly scented perfume to market for €9.95 and still pay for an elaborate advertising campaign. That should give us something to think about!

Well, in direct comparison with an Acqua di Parma Colonia, an Acqua di Genova, or even a Monsieur Balmain, one can certainly find something to criticize. I like the fresh opening, but unfortunately, Nouveau Cologne becomes a bit too sweet for me in the dry down. However: the differences are not really that significant.

With Nouveau Cologne, 4711 presents a usable, renovated, citrus-fresh Cologne. It’s nice to have as a refreshment in between, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Rather, it’s us perfume junkies who might have a screw loose when we shell out around €80 for a Guerlain Eau de Cologne Imperiale or an Acqua di Parma Colonia.

So be it: to each their own! People who buy perfume are rarely reasonable.

Since July 4, 2011, Nouveau Cologne has been available.
With quite a bit of advertising fuss for a product in the lower price segment.
But why not? It is produced here in the country.
At Berlin's main train station, there was a huge advertising image on the ceiling-wall semicircle.
When I saw it after work on those few hot days last summer, it had the effect of an optical refreshment on me.

Surprisingly, I saw yesterday on the international perfume site that someone from the USA has Nouveau Cologne as well as the classic 4711 in their pretty well-stocked collection.
That somehow touched me pleasantly, in terms of the fragrance community, because you can't find 4711 in every store there.

I had tested Nouveau last summer as well, but it couldn't hold a candle to more intense fragrances tested in parallel.
I found it pleasant enough.

During today's shopping round, I sprayed the cologne on my wrist.
After that, it was allowed to come with me.

When I opened the outer packaging at home, a small leaflet came out, describing the fragrance pyramid in several languages.
And that the scent would develop more "fruity-sparkling" for the female gender, while for men, the "woody-soft base" is more prominent.

Accordingly, I am a hybrid, as both happen to me.

At first, I smell citrusy-sour freshness. I have no idea what stinkwood smells like now.
Pretty soon after, it becomes powdery-woody-musky.
Though - I suspect Ambroxan here.
I can smell that substance very well. And that has significantly influenced my purchasing decision; I’m into that stuff.
The entire fragrance development takes place in about 15 minutes.

Of course, there are higher-quality, finer, and more expensive colognes, but I find this one to be a pleasant scent for hotter days or whenever I feel like it.

Good Day, Ms. Kalle!
The company Mäurer & Wirtz indulges in the luxury of employing a full-time nose (that is, an in-house perfumer) like Chanel or Hermes. Unlike her colleagues Polge or Ellena, however, Alexandra Kalle is not a trained perfumer but a marketing professional who has also worked for Coca-Cola and More & More. No, this is by no means to undermine her olfactory skills. After all, she must not only have the right nose for 4711 but also steer the fortunes of Michalsky, Strellson, Pussy Deluxe, Betty Barclay, S. Oliver, Gin Tonic, Otto Kern, etc., all of which are gathered under the M&W umbrella.

For many years, 4711 Cologne Water - the actual cash cow of the shop - was left in a Sleeping Beauty slumber, relegated to the handbag of our grandmothers and a miserable reputation. But since the end of 2008, things have been buzzing in Stolberg, as Alexandra Kalle made a very respectable debut with the nice Acqua Colonia series. In interviews, the lady tells us that her current main interest in fragrances lies in the wellness sector and that she has developed a fondness for floral scents.

But who is she telling this to? We have already had the chance to sniff the new Cologne, which is hard to escape in any drugstore, right? What distinguishes 4711 Nouveau Cologne the most, as it enters the factory annals as the ninth Acqua Colonia, is certainly the price range. NC was not meant to be a premium fragrance but a mass seller that stands alongside the well-known 4711; consequently, it is only half as expensive as the Acqua Colonias.

In terms of scent, it doesn’t take anything away, because even if Ms. Kalle certainly had the task of driving out the mustiness of decades from 4711 and recruiting new target groups, one can immediately discover the Rhineland cheerfulness in the new Cologne, somewhere in direct proximity to Acqua Colonia Blood Orange/Basil.

Well, fragrance ingredients are sound and smoke, because even with completely different ingredients, we somehow arrive at the orange, and the spirit of neroli, which was supposed to be banished, still hovers over the concept. Additionally, a good portion of Biotherm "Eau Pure" was copied, and the upgrade was complete. It’s not a grand Cologne like Acqua di Parma or Eau de Guerlain, but rather an affordable feel-good scent. This is not terribly bad, but why a traditional house like 4711 has no urge for something greater and settles for a fragrance that primarily caters to the zeitgeist is a mystery to me.

Nouveau Cologne is sweet, fruity, floral, and with heliotrope and tonka, sweet and feminine, so it will hardly resonate with the aftershave clientele. More something for - wait, I need to barricade myself - younger girls. With the IMHO slightly unfortunate new design of the not necessarily needed Molanus bottle, it is quite suitable for dollhouses and toy shops. "Good day, Ms. Kalle, a perfume please!"

Tip of the Season!
This is a really, !really! fantastic, wonderful, light, freshly showered, fresh laundry, clean scent! At the beginning, we are kicked into the day by morning grumps with freshly squeezed lemon aromas, and it’s intense! (not found in the pyramid,...still present)
Minutes later, floral notes join in, paired with sandalwood, tonka bean, and the cleanest musk. The lemons fade away, leaving a scent that only a freshly washed cotton T-shirt on slightly damp skin can leave behind. Clean, soft, pure.
For an EDC, it lasts well and for me, it’s a good, no, very good alternative to Emporio Armani White (not similar, but the same wearing experience! RIP my Love)

4711, I would have never tested it without Parfumo, a fantastic scent and it has nothing cloying about it,...

My tip of the day! However, definitely wait for the lemon note to settle,... don’t test superficially, it’s worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best worn with a white or light beige summer outfit, with slightly tanned skin. Generously sprayed on clothing, this gem lasts the longest! It feels elegant and sophisticated. Big shades, don’t forget,...

Starting with floral, fruity and marine notes, it’s a mess. Sharp synthetic marine then takes over. Not a good one, sad to say.

An exciting, albeit somewhat pale reinterpretation of the classic, which I don't see on the line of Cologne waters. Let's give it a try!

Doesn't hurt anyone. So I'd rather have this on a colleague than LVEB or whatever else is trendy.

I find it a bit softer & rounder (a bit less Cologne-like) than the original scent. A quick refreshment for in between.

No comparison to the original 4711. Smells new and fresh, a bit woody, a bit citrusy, a bit floral. But reapplying is a must.

Smells fresh and zesty. Definitely suitable for the younger crowd. Perfect after sports! Longevity is typical for colognes - rather poor.

The perfect refreshment for body and mind! Mugler Cologne gives a new boost. A must-have at 30°C. Pleasant, fresh, and not overpowering.
