I'll catch up with the provider!
Wow, Mudéjar seems to be extremely new, as even the source doesn't know about it: It's not found on the Bekkali website nor in the linked online shop. Well, it undoubtedly exists because I got a sample at Sens Unique in Paris when I asked for something with black currant for my wife. And with its leaf green - forget about the silly berries.
At the start, however, pepper is the dominant note; I would have guessed white. The trendy grapefruit is hardly noticeable to me. My favorite colleague, it must be said, practically had it jumping into her nose. (Also) behind the indication of "black currant" is indeed not fruit, but primarily leaf and bud. Only a hint of berry scent can be sensed upfront.
The garden green top note is surprisingly disciplined today, especially when I compare it to Armani's (sic!) Pierre de Lune. With an original result: It develops, with the help of Laborielles, even a slightly maritime flair upon request, which, in combination with the smoky nuances, including those of the pepper, creates quite an unusual blend.
Because such things often unfortunately turn stale quickly, I remain skeptical at first. But Mudéjar holds steady all morning without becoming driftwood. And the more I sniff it, the more aquatic-maritime and simultaneously successful I find it.
By noon, the character transforms, and quite noticeably, although essentially only an accent shift occurs, as sweet-creamy notes join in. Yet the fragrance gains something comforting and embracing from this. Not overly consuming, as the now second-tier freshness bringers are present. Their gradual substitution towards oak moss can be diagnosed, but it cannot be considered a genuine oak moss appearance; I must disappoint our dear J. on that.
Soon it becomes clear that the midday event is already the Dernière. A little wood still trickles down before Mudéjar suddenly escapes - aside from a few rather pitiful remnants in their sudden solitude. Could it be that I didn't find the fragrance on the manufacturer's site because it only operates there part-time? I must check back later…
Conclusion: A short-timer. But what it does, it does quite well.
