To shelter me in the tender darkness
... don't wake me up...! Let me dream of
wild furry animals incense feathers
immortally calling immortelles in cinnamon spice powder
as tender as the night... - Yes, darkness and opacity can be very salvaging, protective, even philanthropic.
-----
Her great wish was clarity. Everything in her life had become too opaque. So that afternoon she had climbed the mountain alone and looked for a place down in the extinct volcanic crater. It had been her wish to be sucked in and spat out again with new clarity. At dusk, the stars and the moon appeared in the clear sky. Small animals and unfamiliar birds made strange sounds. She watched the first stars and the moon set again at the edge of the crater as she was catapulted into eternity. Suddenly she was very, very, very far away, in nothingness, in eternity, in space. Everything was absolutely bright and clear and mercilessly bare, a place where there was no movement, no life, no polarity. In this merciless clarity, there was also no you that could have been asked anything. This standstill in clarity and eternity was merciless, horrible and very exhausting. It was merciless, but she was not afraid: she thought about life on earth, about how she did not understand that so much remained dark, but she realized how wonderful it all was... - Only the beginning dawn ended this struggle, and still in the dark she descended the mountain again and returned to the world of the living with tears streaming down her face. Small yellow flowers entrusted themselves to the darkness like little stars. Since then, she has cherished the knowledge of how valuable even the sometimes unclear and opaque is and that she can bring clarity into the world because she also knows how terribly brutal clarity can be.

Let me travel into my dreams... Guard my dreams, my small and great desires, my secret wishes. They are completely innocent as desires, almost childlike, yet grown-up, because I have already seen everything... In the darkness, into which I can flee from myself and yet at the same time to myself... This is where the all-too-sharp boundaries created by the bright light of day become blurred. And if many a clarity proves to be merely apparent, the night, in which boundaries blur, reveals much more important things than the glaring brightness.
"O sleep, why dost thou leave me,
why thy visionary joys remove?
O sleep, again deceive me,
to my arms restore my wand'ring love!"
(from Handel's "Semele")

Both fragrance variants (obscur and clair) of "Tendre est la nuit" were named after F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel "Tender is the Night", which deals, among other things, with the meaninglessness of a superficial lifestyle and the relationship crises and excesses of the "Roaring Twenties", but also with the important meaning of everything that is repressed from the light of day into the dark, but still manages to find justification again and again.

Delphine Thierry has once again created a fragrance of great subtlety and depth.
For me, it begins directly with animalic notes: I perceive both civet and castoreum, as well as Szechuan pepper and ambrette seeds, which I like very much. Immortelle and carrot are also present, but I find them rather restrained. (This may have something to do with the fact that I've been testing leftover samples here - I'm really looking forward to testing the bottle) Davana has a very slightly liqueur-like floral quality, like small yellow flowers that close themselves off from the overly bright daylight but dare to open up in the darkness of the night. I have never consciously noticed Cabreuva before; it is said to smell warm, soft, sweet, woody and slightly floral, with some references to rosewood and sandalwood - I can't sniff these out individually, but they fit in well with the overall impression. In any case, a very fine, delicately sweet and powdery amber base unfolds later, which then releases incense and labdanum. I really like patchouli, but I don't find it here as a single prominent note.
For me, the overall development is quite linear and calm, but still moving and not monotonous.
This fragrance celebrates life - but not loud and garish and big, but delicate and tender and philanthropic.

With thanks to @Midnights. and @Floyd , who arranged or, as a surprise, made it possible for me to test it extensively. In the meantime, it extends my wish list...

... will then still a pleasant fragrance
I'm greeted by citrusy resinousness that goes very much in the chemical direction, like I'm smelling some heavily concentrated bottle of cleaner. Oh help! For the next hour I keep my wrists as far away from my nose as possible. Slowly a toned down version reaches me, as if a splash of the cleaner had been added to a large bucket of water. Now the whole thing takes on a refreshing touch. O k a y ! Half an hour later, I dare to put my nose over my wrist again and, happily, I am now greeted by bright, spicy incense. This is a pleasant change. This phase reminds me strongly of the recently tested "Suki Essence", which smelled of this incense throughout. Again, some time further on, I've arrived at the much appreciated patchouli phase: gently spicy cocoa. Today, the following morning and even noon (sprayed on last night about 21.00 clock) I can still and again delicately sniff out this light-spicy incense.

The durability is thus with up to now 15 hours - I still have a touch on the wrist - to describe as very good. The radiance after about an hour is close to the person.

Conclusion: from an awful prelude then still becomes a pleasant fragrance.

Greeting + thanks to Serenissima

an attempt at homage
... intended for a small but big man who had to leave the stage of his eventful life on Monday at the age of 94: Charles Aznavour!
Just recently returned from great tour, full of plans and still very lively: so he will remain in our memory!
His chansons will continue to accompany us: whether "Du lässt Dich geh'n", with which he tried in the early sixties to wake up many lazy women and remind them that each of them is beautiful and adorable, up to the duet with his daughter Katia, who recently accompanied this elegant gentleman on stage: "Je Voyage".
This chanson is about what it's like to hang silver-haired on a bench, pondering the thoughts that may have passed by last spring and letting things go, travelling into the past "without luggage, with the help of pictures, dreams and thoughts". (FAZ, feuilleton - October 2, 2018)

"Tendre est la Nuit" - that could very well be the title of a chanson; sung by Charles Aznavour I can imagine this "Tender is the night" very well.
So here I try to dedicate an appropriate scent comment to this man, whose voice also accompanied my life for a very long time.
Is this presumptuous? I might! But it's worth a try!

A fragrance, like a night full of tenderness!
Already in the top note a certain daring is shown:
Immortelle - the straw flowers with their own, slightly dusty scent, which survive even long periods of dryness (even in these bound folklore bouquets) without any problems, open this appearance.
Always a little weird, they meet carrot and Ambrettesamen here: Bisameibisch and carrots - someone dares to do something! But it all fits together.
This unique composition is interestingly combined with the oil of the balsam tree (Cabreuva).
An overture that impresses me, but also alienates me a little: where does this night lead me? Will I get lost in it?
It is still a little cool and brittle; but that will change soon.
Pepper - fiery pepper of different nuances and spicy benzoin resin bring the first flames to this fragrance: it begins to radiate a warmth to which one can devote oneself without hesitation.
Artemisia adds a surprising herbal spice (one moment I am reminded of a tea infusion).
Still "Tendre est la Nuit" is warm and tender, invites you to cuddle and only gently touches the senses.
It reminds of the familiar closeness of the beloved!
Leather and beaver horny awaken sensuality: this night suddenly pulsates with restrained eroticism.
Hot and cold showers alternate, the skin becomes rosy - the eyes shine: the willingness to devotion grows!
Oak moss brings green-spicy depth, grounding for a moment the flickering passion and paving the way for three of the great fragrances of the perfume world: curtain up!
Golden floating patchouli, slightly scratchy, strong labdanum and incense: this is how "Tendre est la Nuit" strides towards its most beautiful perfection!
The dream of a tenderness that connects heaven and earth - from the velvety sunset to the red-hot appearance of dawn!
The durability of which survives the night: from the coolness of the nightfall to the deep velvety darkness of the night - full of heat and desire - to the light that reflects the dawn and the quietly awakening life.
This is how I feel the scent of this nocturnal tenderness.

Unfortunately I can't write chansons; not even a lame Schlager.
But "Tendre est la Nuit" is a love song that this unique chansonnier Charles Aznavour might have been able to capture in sounds and words!
So, to say goodbye, standing ovations and a soft "Adieu!" - he remains unforgotten!
