Cardamom chai latte
You have to be a cardamom fanatic like me to enjoy this one. I absolutely adore this spice in cooking, coffee brewing and in perfumery. When cooler fall weather hits, I alternate between this Gold Heart and Aesop's Marrakech Intense over and over and over. Whereas Gold Heart is a warm, spiced cardamom chai latte, Marrakech Intense is a cool cardamom assault on your senses.

I think Gold Heart's "Peace" label makes perfect sense, because it's such a calming aroma, like the brew that a yoga teacher would offer you after a long session with meditation. It's feminine and enticing and not entirely like the sadly discontinued Feu d'Issey. Although they share similar facets, adoring fans of the Miyake red bottle will probably be slightly disappointed, as Gold Heart doesn't quite have the same roller-coaster journey, nor the same complex evolution as the OG. However, that also makes Gold Heart a lot more user friendly and approachable. Just wish the longevity would be better, especially in relation to the price.

Metallic saffron milk
Similar to Etro Etra, Poivre Piquant (L'Artisan Parfumeur) and the great but long discontinued Le Feu d'Issey, Gold Heart is a shimmering cup of Golden Milk (turmeric milk), glinting with strange metals, savory pepper, and a rubbery saffron, built over a base of what smells to me like the sour, yoghurty twang of Australian sandalwood.

I bought a bottle direct from the (Australian) brand in the days before custom import charges were levied on anything coming in from outside the EU, so it wasn't a bad deal. However, the sour and creamy lactonic began to bother me after a while, as did the hot, faintly plasticky edge that appears in perfumery whenever you rub pepper up against a glass of milk, and I thought, well, for the price, I could just get Poivre Piquant, which those days was selling for 50 euros in TK Maxx, if the craving for that very specific peppery-saffron-rubber-milk smell ever came upon me. So, I sold my bottle. And guess what, Poivre Piquant disappeared from the shelves of TK Maxx and now whenever the craving for a strange, rubbery saffron milk thing comes upon me, I think longingly of my Gold Heart and I am filled with regret. But don't worry about me. I'll survive.

Undescript saffrony-woody-fruity scent with some sweet patchouli and suede leather. Seriously underwhelming performance.

A special scent of sweet, fruity-floral notes on a creamy saffron-sandalwood base. Unique but very pleasant to wear.

Visualizing the bottle aside: sharp-spicy fruits, strong saffron wood & creamy nuts create a delicate, dreamlike fire scent.

Scents that combine spicy-peppery, smoky, and woody notes are now legion - usually not bad, but often boring.

After the spicy start, the overall development flattens out, ending softly in a creamy-sandalwood blur. Solid.

Rose on cream and as a counterpoint a pleasantly medicinal spice combo, with saffron clearly coming to the forefront, quite unique.

Starts wonderfully with fruit and blossom, similar to Hildes Il Tuo Tulipano. Then saffron takes over and sadly makes the scent bitter.

Here, the scent reminds me of a hybrid between Golden Powder and Live in Colors by The House of Oud.

The opening is shrill & loud, chrome-colored milk, piercing saffron dust. As it develops, it becomes calmer and better with soft sandalwood shavings.

If "Sacred Wood" is too minimalist for you, you'll find a much more complex alternative here. Sweet-spicy-creamy, dry wood. Craving it!
