I have never been to Japan...
...and slowly I suspect that I don't want to go there either - at least not in terms of fragrance.
The Miyake scents are all too "bright," too green-white, to put it in terms of color.
And then came M.M. - I'll shorten it. I tested "Shiro," then "mat," and now this one - I don't want to give up that quickly.

But: Again and again the same scent perception: Too bright, too clean, too "pure." Not unpleasant at all, but as a perfume, it's not accessible to me.
These scents pass by so quickly that I can't grasp them clearly.
I find them very "uninformative," a hint of something light, whoosh - and then only to be smelled with my nose on my arm. Not for me!

Too noncommittal, like the Japanese courtly manner - for me.

"Art Mosaic" really smells very quickly, for me, like mango - whether Mallika (what is that?) or other mango, that's irrelevant to me. I can't/don't want to nuance it that finely.
I love eating mango, I enjoy cooking with mango - I don't like smelling like mango.

No, unfortunately again not a M.M. scent that I want/would wear, too noncommittal-light-fruity.

Well, I just have to live with the fact that Japan is not a fragrance experience country for me to explore.

P.S. I believe the Japanese wouldn't like me anyway - I'm much too direct and committed and can't always smile and love dark and bold scents, LoL.

Such a beautiful fragrance deserves more than just a review
The house of Masaki Matsushima is known for light fragrances, typically Japanese.

I have loved Japanese incense sticks for years for room fragrance; they are also subtle and low-smoke, made from high-quality materials.

So I became interested in Japanese fragrances and came to Matsushima. "Shiro" was the first one I got to test; a wonderful, light scent like fresh laundry.

Then I took the plunge and made a blind purchase of "Art Mosaic" here in the Souk (thanks again!!) and fortunately was not disappointed.
"A light, fresh, and not too sweet fragrance with fruity notes, that must be it!" was my thought. Lemon meringue alone sounds tempting.

Art Mosaic starts off with soft-creamy grapefruit that is not too sour, and ripe mango (I can hardly believe it's in the base since I smell it immediately), fruity-fresh, not synthetic and not too sweet.
Very fruity and delicate, it becomes citrusy over time, but remains light and close to the skin.
I don't know how Paulownie smells, so I can't comment on that.
One that is never "too much."

The only negative point for me is the longevity, which is about 3-4 hours.

I am glad to have this special fragrance in my collection.

Elegant Summer Dream
Thanks to ALzD for a sample of this wonderful fragrance. The top notes are as described in the pyramid, but there is no loud grapefruit/tangerine, rather very soft and dreamy.
The citrus tones are now supported by a very gentle creamy... for me, not powdery accord. That must be the Paulownia coming through now.
Unfortunately, we only have the bluebell tree in our wine-growing region, and I had to dig deep into my memory to recall its scent.
But I have it back and remember perceiving this fragrance under that tree full of blossoms at a friend's vineyard in Styria while enjoying a very good glass of Sauvignon.
Dipped in mild acacia honey, that’s how this fragrance feels now... grapefruit is still present and blends like a sorbet with peppery mango. No overwhelming sweetness that clogs the scent, no masculine freshness... tender and feminine, never intrusive and with astonishing longevity.
Definitely a delicate, romantic, elegant, and very successful summer fragrance.
It's going on my wishlist for next summer :-)

Fruity, creamy, cheerful, citrusy. Synthetic mainstream scent.
Nice, but nothing special. Quite okay for warm days.

beautiful sun-ripened juicy sweet mangoes - later the scent becomes a bit more citrusy and less sweet. Just right for the hot temperatures

Citrus fruits in warm sunlight. A bit like the Escada Summer LEs. Sweet and refreshing at the same time!
