The Lovely-Fresh Pepper Flower Mill
Fleur de Sansho means nothing other than Sichuan pepper flower and is consequently also a component of this Eau de Parfum from the Haiku Trilogy by Masaki Matsushima. Unfortunately, I have almost no personal experience with this flower and cannot contribute anything regarding its presence or authenticity.

And despite the continued mention of pepper, this creation overall does not come across as spicy or sharp as one might fear or possibly hope. No, Fleur de Sansho is truly a very floral scent with the additional pleasant aroma of angelica, citrusy bergamot, fruity orange blossom, and woody-fresh cedar. Overall, it comes across as very lovely and summery, sometimes a tad too feminine but still can be declared unisex.

There are no major developments, twists, or surprises, as the scent is too clear and too well-behaved, yet still possesses a certain spark of refinement. Whether this is precisely the connection between Sichuan pepper flower and Sichuan pepper is hard to interpret. Nevertheless, Fleur de Sansho has its fine charm and impresses with poetic contours - understated yet still trendsetting and extremely likeable.

Two points are quite interesting on the side: on one hand, while wearing it, scent veils reminiscent of Terre d'Hermès appeared repeatedly.
On the other hand, I noticed that Fleur de Sansho from the Haiku Trilogy is offered at €79 for 80 ml, which is somewhat more expensive than the two other EdPs at €66.

Aaaahh, Mate… where have you gone?
Hmm, I haven't tried many Masaki Matsushima fragrances so far, but the bottles from this brand always look very extravagant yet interesting to me, so that with just a single glance at such a bottle, you can usually tell it might be a Matsushima scent.

For me, it's also good to learn more about a brand to eventually form a better opinion about it. But I want to be honest that what attracted me to this fragrance was primarily the fragrance note… how else could it be… the Mate. Well, what else, right?

I don't need to explain at length again how much I love tea and such "things." However, I was very disappointed by a Mate drink recently. During a meeting with one of "your kind" (which means with a nice perfumer :D), I sat in a café and thought I could try one of those Mate refreshment drinks. Because as I said: Mate always sounds great, and the slightly milky-green color of the drink was enticing. But what came out of it? An absolutely unsweetened and extremely watered-down drink that really wasn't worth the money! No wonder I'll surely order a coffee next time…. *sigh* :D

But now to the scent!

The scent:
The scent starts off quite fresh with a citrusy bergamot, shortly followed by sweet floral notes, where I suspect Angelica. The pepper adds a slight spicy note and is a bit weak at first, but for my taste, it is optimally dosed. Whether it becomes stronger and especially sharper later on remains to be seen.
A little later, the scent continues to smell fresh, but still slightly spicy. The bergamot is gradually replaced by oranges, which become more noticeable.
So, a bit later, the pepper fortunately remains quite pleasant, and the scent still has light, sweet notes, although it is now more challenging to attribute these floral sweet notes to Angelica.
Mate? Well,… it is slightly present, but to be honest, I wouldn't immediately think of Mate if I hadn't seen it in the fragrance pyramid beforehand. I find that disappointing because I actually like the scent of Mate and had hoped for more here.

The sillage and longevity:
The sillage is rather weak, so you will mostly smell the scent yourself, meaning it will be less noticeable to others.
The longevity isn't that high either. The scent lasts about four to six hours.

The bottle:
The bottle is slim, tall, and rectangular. It has a pattern of small squares on the glass, which makes the bottle look quite nice. The cap is black and round, appearing to be cut off on one "side," which seems to be one of those design features of Matsushima bottles. It's quite nice anyway.

Okaaay, the scent didn't really convince me, at least regarding the Mate aspect. But if you set that aside, the scent turned out to be quite nice, although also rather unspectacular. It generally smells sweet, slightly floral, and a bit spicy, making it feel like 1000 other fragrances, with which you can't really go wrong if you're looking for a (weakly projecting) simple summer scent. But you should really lower your expectations a bit and not expect anything extraordinary. The scent is simply suitable as a simple, fresh daytime fragrance on warm days, which you can also wear well at work, as it won't negatively or disturbingly stand out to anyone. However, for the price, there are indeed better fragrances available.

So… yes, I expected more from the Mate, and I was a bit disappointed here, much like with that Mate drink recently, which sounded quite good "on paper" *sigh*

Well, maybe I should buy one of those Mate preparation sets… although I fear that I might sometimes be a lazy sack and that the thing would end up gathering dust in a corner after the first use, argh! :D

PS: Thanks to Blauemaus for the hint: I think I just confused Mate with Matcha regarding the preparation set! :D Although Mate does have such a great preparation method too!

Starts aquatic, thankfully only briefly. The pepper is pleasantly muted, delicate O-flower with dry + warm-spicy wood. Calm freshness. No tea.

The orange blossom is modest. Angelica and citrus notes take over. The scent has a refreshing wipe vibe.

Oh Angelika, with you we even spice up the O-flower into the perfume. Spicy-floral + at the same time nicely fresh, great!

Bergamot & orange blossom lovingly surrounded by spicy pepper notes. This gives it a niche quality / a hint of vintage charm. Unfortunately, it's very subtle.

You can't go wrong here, a peppery-orange scent. For me, it's suited for late summer. Nice, but unremarkable.
