Shampoo rose
I bought Grasse Experience because I had seen reviews stating that it was a good dupe for Aromatics Elixir. Well I love me some Aromatics Elixir so the chance for something in a similar vein was too much to pass up.

There is something similar about the smell, and I can see the comparison, but on my skin there was a sweet, shampoo like rose (it reminded me a bit of the rose in the modern version of L'Aimant) that took over the whole wear as it wafted to my nose very persistently the whole time I had it on and it was this smell that left a trail.

Comparing the two I would say Grasse is shampoo like rosy, sweet and Aromatics dry, earthy, grassy green, herbal.

The bottle is a plain glass cylinder, quite heavy, with a well fitting gold plastic cap. The bottle is pressurised so the spray comes out like an aerosol can of body spray (not used to these any more so took a bit of a drenching first time I tried it). Altogether simple packaging that doesn't feel or look too cheap. I don't like the spray at all so decanted some into a travel atomiser - much smaller amount sprayed and over a smaller area.

Aromatics lasted all day into the next morning. I had to reapply the Grasse 3 or 4 times as it faded very quickly.

Overall a nice smell but not what I wanted. I didn't feel like I was wearing perfume, more like I had used scented bath products.

Well done
If you dear Katja, hadn't mentioned that the scent is very close to your beloved Aromatic Elixir, I wouldn't have realized it myself.

The fragrance is really fine and I find it quite wearable, however on my skin it doesn't resemble AE that much. At least not at the beginning, it comes across differently on me.
I tested both side by side - AE on the right and GE on the left.

So for my part, GE is more of a tobacco-like, fruity-herbaceous scent, while AE is much denser and clearly has the mossy, elegant Chypre character that I greatly appreciate.

However, I definitely don't want to speak badly of GE, as it develops really softly-spicy-fresh-floral and when you consider the price, it is indeed a good alternative to AE.
I personally prefer to stick with the original, even though I'm not always averse to imitations and affordable scents that don't come across as cheap.

I am very grateful for this sample and the experience.

Addendum 28.09.2025 - By the way, the scent is indeed very, very similar to AE. I was once again too hasty with my opinion. Tz tz tz, I need to change that! Dear MissKatie, you are a connoisseur!

Really good!!!
First of all: for about 30 years, my absolute favorite fragrance has been "Aromatics Elixir (Perfume) | Clinique," and I would love to still wear it, but unfortunately, I can only perceive it briefly right after spraying it on. That's why my search for a new "this-is-me fragrance" led me to this site (unfortunately with the usual collateral damage here, like the horrified look at my bank account or increasing lack of space *sigh*). Before this, I had hardly dealt with fragrances and had to learn 1. various technical terms and 2. how to categorize my preferences (e.g., "Chypre"... a few weeks ago, I had a huge question mark in my thought bubble regarding that term).

Thanks to a super sweet perfumer (a big thank you again to Igraine), who sent me a wonderful sample pack, and by reading the descriptions/reviews, I have learned a lot.

She was also the one who suggested I try the Grasse Experience. Given the price, I immediately did that... and what can I say? It is a really successful dupe, and to my great joy, I can even perceive it longer on me than my AE.
The GE is "milder" and less "harsh" (at the beginning) than the AE, but the composition is really very, very similar. There seems to be just a small difference that brings my perception back to life, but of course, I am totally happy :)

I can only agree with many statements regarding this: it is a subtler version of the AE (and at that price, it's really a joke), and for anyone who likes Chypre, it's a fragrance for every season and occasion, nothing sweet and/or powdery (like me), but rather something a bit more extraordinary. I can only recommend spending around 7.00 (!) euros (50 ml, Amazon) and giving it a try.

Here, they've either intentionally or accidentally oriented it towards Aromatics Elixir. At first, you get a brief whiff of chamomile, then rosy...

AE is affordable, but not cheap. A bit softer, more chamomile. The brand can do dupes.

It really leans towards Aromatics Elixir, Aramis 900, and even more towards New Tradition: a good replica.

Successful! If "Aromatics Elixir" is too strong for you, take this opportunity: a bit less scratchy clove; but still great.

Bitter warmth, almost dry chamomile dances around the wanderer's tanned skin on the way through summer grass to the rose garden.

First a full nose of chamomile herbal tea blend, then soapy, warm & woodsy. I've never smelled anything like this before. I'm blown away.

Long searched, finally found: an affordable Aromatics Elixir dupe. A floral chypre that you could easily mistake for a pre-Reformation scent!
