Resinous beeswax at the center with sweets, florals, and spices abound
Pineward Perfumes Chandlery is one of the more recent releases from the house, a sort of sweet, powdery, spicy resinous mix, less concerned with pine/spruce/fir and more so with a sort of beeswax-led semi-gourmand featuring florals (namely, lavender), vanilla, cinnamon, and cloves. It’s a bit delicious, a bit mysterious, a bit familiar (in that I more or less instantly know that I love it because it falls in a general category that I’m a fan of), yet nuanced and new in some ways, too, which really is a nice balance. So there’s a spicy honey beeswax side to it, but it’s not as spicy as Hiram Green Slowdive, nor does it have the syrupy floral quality of Zoologist Bee, and it’s a little more raw and less cinnamon-laden than MFK Grand Soir. With those comparisons, it’s surely in good company while having its own identity.

I think I owe it a couple more tries and maybe further comparisons to the aforementioned examples, but I really love this stuff, and it’s rather unique within the house that generally focuses in other areas—namely, woody-first scents.

Chandlery’s pricing is the same as the rest of the line, at $220/128/80 for 57/37/17ml, which is fair for rich, unique, high-performing creations, in my opinion.

Chandlery
Pineward tries to transport you to distant wild forests, primeval black woods and succeeds perfectly, abandoned alpine farms, frost-laden and mist-covered fir trees.
Chandlery is a warm and dense composition that envelops you completely, as if you were in one of these abandoned farms in the middle of the wild forest, and surrounded by many candles that warm my senses with their aromas.

waxy to the max
This opens with warm and dry spices and heady creamy florals. The beeswax is definitely a strong waxy accord all throughout the scent, it feels like a bouquet of flowers sealed with honeyed wax and sprinkled with cinnamon and anise. The florals are warm, very fragrant, like the smell of flowers in a vase after they’ve bloomed, and are due to wilt in the next few days. The vanilla definitely takes the sweetness to another level, it’s almost too much, especially with such strong and fragrant florals. A lot of notes here are very strong so it becomes a little convoluted. I think I could definitely like this more if the florals weren’t so strong in relation with the rest of the notes.

Licorice and Baking in the Woods
When I first tried this fragrance, all I got was the licorice smell from the aniseed. The second time I was able to pick up more of the nuance. To start, the licorice is pretty strong and only really fades before you hit the dry down phase, it also adds a sweetness to the fragrance. There is a waxy/resin pine background at the beginning to help the licorice from being overpowering. Those will fade and then the cinnamon and vanilla will appear to make the scent more of a holiday baking scent, a little gourmand. The dry down looses the licorice and becomes more of a musky woody scent. I never really picked up the florals, at least as not individual notes. The projection is strong in the beginning and it lasted about 4 hours on skin (which is weaker compared to some of the other fragrances I've tried from this line).

Heavy, antique, nostalgic
Pineward is a perfume house that I would love to get a full sample set of. Even though not all the fragrances from them have been hits for me, they have been memorable.
I haven’t worn Chandlery in months but it left such an impression on me that I just dug my sample back out of my “to trade” box.
It’s dark and heavy and warm and spicy. It smells like my grandma’s front hallway somehow, of incense and antiques, clean and impeccably detailed.
Something about it reminds me of Bulls Blood by imaginary authors. That same heavy spicy cloud that darkens everything perhaps?

This is a fragrance that is more of an experience than a scent I’d wear for fun. I do not “like” it and yet I go back to it because it evokes so many memories and feelings, even memories of experiences I’ve never even had.
Pineward, you dirty dog, you did it again.

Brighter than many other Pinewards.
The main focus is beeswax+cinnamon+ lavender.
I don't notice any green hints.

No honey, just lots of beeswax candles and lavender + spice. Really does evoke a cottage feeling. Better in cold weather. Just lovely.

Cinnamon embracing the sweetness of beeswax, a spicy hug surrounded by sticky flowers. Winter and calming scent, reminds me of a warm house.

Vintage candles illuminate a softly glowing room, filled with antiques and cozy. A Victorian parlour, kinda dusty.
