In cold Britain with a gourmand and the love for a city..
Monday morning 9 AM.
Departure towards the airport with the destination - London Heathrow.
This fragrance has been waiting for me at the hotel reception for over a week.
I had already had the idea several times to order a fragrance that is hard to find in Germany while on vacation (shoutout to @Inesz, thanks for the inspiration for this brilliant idea) and at the same time save on shipping costs. Now the time had finally come! I had found a candidate that piqued my interest and was hard to get in Germany..
I had been looking forward to this trip for a long time, as it had been a while since I spent time in one of my favorite cities. The fact that I could now also connect this trip with some new olfactory impressions made it even more delightful!
Arriving at LHR, off to the Underground - Piccadilly Line - 39 minutes separate me from my (perhaps) new fragrance love.
Leaving the subway, out into the cold air, there had already been information during the flight that we would be facing 4°C and rain (typical British) and so I hurried to the hotel.
Check-in, room key, and the nice lady was already smiling when I mentioned my name (Oh, there's something that's already waiting for you) and so I happily accepted my package.
Barely in the room, the box was already opened and I held a heavy little box in my hand that opened like a book.
Inside was a black padding with a perfect casing and a simple black bottle. Matt black lacquered with a glossy black plaque.
Cap off and the first spray landed directly on my forearm - WOW!
The top note opens with a gourmand straight out of a picture book, a warm praline with a slight rum note and non-animalistic oud combined with spicy cinnamon and a gently alcoholic note create a truly wonderful sweet opening and immediately awakened a cozy feeling in me.
If you take a closer look at the fragrance pyramid, you might miss a cherry, as this note can somehow be detected in this constellation.
As I couldn't wait any longer and the first evening in London was approaching, the fragrance became my evening scent, and I sprayed generously as I usually do on my neck, nape, and hairline.
Sprayed on and happy with my new treasure in the collection, I stepped out into the cold, rainy evening, and the fragrance took its course.
After a few minutes, a warm blend of honey and pleasant tonka beans joined the sweet-spicy top note, creating a wonderful symbiosis with the tobacco and bringing along a shy orchid. However, here the (for me, not at all like the waxy scent one often knows) plays the main role, and you have the feeling that the different notes wrap you in a warming scarf around your neck, protecting you from the cold. That was the moment when the fragrance finally captivated me.
If you give the progression a little more time, you will be embraced by a pleasantly woody, slightly resinous base, and the fragrance gains a truly harmonious foundation to the previously sweet gourmand notes. The oud comes through here as a warm, slightly medicinal note and does not come off as animalistic at all, but rather woody soft and totally snuggly nestled into the other resinous notes and sweet accords.
The end of the city trip had come, and I could conclude that I had only
worn 2 other fragrances during the entire stay and otherwise automatically reached for "Halcyon Oud | Soma Parfums."
Now I sit at home on the couch 24 hours later, having applied 3 sprays, and I enjoy this truly wonderful fragrance just like the first time I smelled it, which literally sweetened my stay, and I am really happy to be able to connect the collected experiences with a fragrance.
I thank everyone who managed to read this far and endured my ramblings :)
