"Round, warm, and sunny" are the words I choose to describe the overall mood of the fragrance. But that wasn't enough for a statement.
Therefore, I dedicate a closer description to it, as authentically as I can manage.
The comparison to
Derby (2005) is appropriate, as it also exhibits this cheerful basic mood. Otherwise, the scent progression is quite different.
I have added a small sample of the Guerlain, but I do not wish to elaborate on it, as "Red Amber" is the focus here.
What strikes me first when spraying is the pronounced and very natural Mandarin and Blood Orange note. Other fragrance components, aside from a hint of pepper, are not discernible at first. This changes after about an hour when something slightly rosy and soothingly resinous appears. This is likely due to the Elemi, with a fine, comfortably dark undertone. If the fragrance were to be assigned a color at this stage, it would be "fiery sunset orange." Initially "wood-free." Then these notes become slightly perceptible. Gradually becoming clearer. Together with the still well-recognizable top note and the intermediate tones, the fragrance undergoes no significant changes anymore.
It doesn't need to. Because as it presents itself for several hours, it is complete. It is wonderfully warm, "sunny," and resinous.
And the "roundness" in the overall appearance is an excellent quality. It doesn't need any "sharp edges." Just its good mood ;-))
