My little favorite. Or, my start in the niche fragrance world
So, today I’m taking the time for my little favorite, which has been with me for almost 15 years now. Back then, I started to become interested in niche fragrances and wildly tested the available offerings on the market. There were L'Artisans, Maitre Parfumeur et Gantiers, Lorenzo Villoresis, and various others. Fortunately, the selection in the 2000s was not as huge as it is today. However, the sample prices were much cheaper. Nowadays, I get quite a shock when I see what just a few drops cost. But that’s another topic.

I’ve only been registered here for a few weeks. Back then, it was also a forum that made me aware of niche fragrances. My start in this new world was bumpy and initially full of disappointments. Yes, I found some fragrances interesting, but there wasn’t a single one that was even close to being as good as my previous designer fragrances. For many years, I loved Casmir, enjoyed Alchimie by Rochas, Feminine by D&G, or Tempore Donna by Laura Biagiotti. The descriptions of the niche fragrances sounded incredibly beautiful, but unfortunately, the reality always smelled different.

Actually, I had almost lost my desire, but then I arranged a swap with another lovely user. I don’t remember which sample she received from me. I had no specific testing wish, and she sent me a sample of her latest acquisition - Macadam by Il Profumo. The fragrances were brand new on the market and could only be purchased at a shop in Hamburg. When I received the package, I tested the little treasure without any expectations. Having already given up on niche, this jewel came under my nose. The resemblance to my beloved Casmir was undeniable. And the rest of the package thrilled me completely. I could only sniff at my wrist, and I was - in love - and how! I used the sample very sparingly. Back then, I worked in another federal state and only saw my partner on weekends. Of course, the Macadam sample came with me when I visited him. And - what joy - he was also thrilled by the scent. He quickly ordered me an O bottle online and gifted it to me.

Well, since Macadam, my interest in special fragrances has truly been awakened. And it was not to be the only niche fragrance in my collection. Nevertheless, I never want to be without Macadam, because the feelings of happiness I had when testing it back then and still have today when I wear it are not often experienced with perfume. Therefore, it will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Chocolate
Macadam smells like delicate chocolate on me.
I have often tested ambered fragrances that develop quite a strong chocolate note.

The opening is soft, floral, and chocolaty.
I can't pick out any of the mentioned notes.
Vanilla is not listed, but the fragrance does have a rather vanilla-like touch.
Later, it gains a lovely caramel note, as it now smells like melted chocolate. Still, I wouldn't consider it a pure gourmand.
It is beautiful, soft, and cozy.

Dragon Fruit Intense
My mom and I were brave last summer and tried a dragon fruit. From the outside, it looked like a red artichoke, and inside it was white with countless black seeds. And the taste was almost nonexistent. The whole thing was very watery and slightly sweet.

That's why I expected a fresh, light top note here. However, Macadam is a soft, cuddly scent. However it was made, here is the entire sweetness of at least a ton of fruit pulp gathered. Right from the start, I also notice a lot of amber and myrrh and a bit of wood. The flowers mentioned in the pyramid stand no chance in this sweet cloud.
The longevity and sillage are wonderful.

The scent is too sweet for me, yet 70 %, it is simply well made!

Where is the nut hidden?
With Macadam, I always expect it to smell nutty at some point. But it doesn’t, I could wait a long time for that. And because I was so disappointed that no nut came out, I didn’t use it for a long time. Until this afternoon. I think it took it personally, because it’s even more stubborn now than before. It could also be that the top note is already gone, because I remember it being much fresher and fruitier. Now I only smell overripe dragon fruit (the one that looks like a pink artichoke with black spots in the flesh!). The heart note is as always - Casmir Light describes it quite well: sweet, vanillic, a bit oriental, woody. The base is very nice.
Ambered myrrh, somehow. In any case, heavy, somewhat smoky and warm.
And no nut in sight.

The Sweetly Powdery Nut
What is Macadam?
Well, there are certainly a few meanings. Primarily, one probably thinks of the nut, which is delicious and has a really hard shell to crack (a tough nut, then :D). But as so often, there are already opened nuts for all the lazy people like you to buy…

Then, Makadam (now with a k) is also an outdated form of a road construction method, but I think that will interest very few here, so I’ll return to the scent. I assume that the fragrance is supposed to have something nutty about it, even though such a thing is not indicated in the fragrance pyramid.

The Scent:
This fragrance starts with a sweet jasmine, with roses in the background. I'm not so sure about the dragon fruit, as I don't know what a dragon fruit even smells like; I can't even remember the last time I had one. However, the scent is a bit fruity.
Quickly, the roses come to the forefront and become just as strong as the jasmine. Additionally, the fragrance has a powdery quality and even a slightly clean aspect.
Later, the scent takes on a small, incense-like note and becomes a bit airy-smoky, although this doesn't last very long. It remains somewhat sweet later on and smells of roses and jasmine. In the background, it has a slightly dry scent, where you can also smell the woods.
In the base, the fragrance becomes a bit sweeter and powdery (and even slightly soapy-clean, which loses some of its dryness), and the scent reminds me, as Angua has also noted, of vanilla, which is not listed here. However, I can't really detect the patchouli either. Whether the scent smells nutty, I'm honestly not so sure. It smells gourmand and a tiny bit chocolatey,… well, maybe like nut chocolate :)
But it is beautiful nonetheless.

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is somewhat low; you can smell it briefly on someone, but after an hour, you have to get much closer to perceive it.
The longevity is a bit longer, lasting about ten hours.

The Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular and closes with a beautifully designed, gilded cap. What draws the most attention, however, is the label with the elaborate frame, which could come straight from antiquity. A simple bottle, enhanced by a beautiful label.

Hmm…
I'm not really sure if there is a nutty note here, but honestly, I don't really remember what macadamia nuts smell like either. But that doesn't matter, as the scent itself is pleasant. It may not offer much new, but that might just be my impression since I’m testing a lot of fragrances here (and annoying you with comments... this is the part where you should now say, “But no, you’re not annoying us!” :D) and thus many things seem similar to me.

Be that as it may, Macadam is a beautiful, gourmand fragrance. It has turned out very nice, just unfortunately with a somewhat low sillage.

The similarity to "Casmir" is undeniable! Even though the name and bottle design suggest otherwise! I don't smell any nuts!
