Summer by the Lake
When I was a child, we went to a small lake nearby every free day in the summer. While the parents lounged in the sun, we kids had a blast exploring the area on our own. (Yes, back then kids were allowed to do that!)

There was a worn path around the lake. The dark ground felt cool and smooth under my bare feet and was crisscrossed with thick, gnarled tree roots.

There was so much to discover, and it was always an exciting adventure. Colorful beetles, little frogs, and once even a grass snake crossed our path. The dense canopy provided refreshing shade.

At one point, a small stream ran across the path. It looked very shallow, but when I put a foot in, the ground gave way and I sank almost to my hips in slimy mud. That was a shock...

"Vanilla & the Sea" reminds me exactly of those summers by the lake. It smells to me of earthy forest floor, woody like ancient trees, a bit salty from sweating, and sweet like creamed children's skin. And a little muddy like my involuntary mud pack.

Ah, it was lovely! :-)

Of Pink Elephants
In psychology, there is a thought experiment where the patient is asked not to think of a pink elephant. Those who try quickly realize that they cannot get rid of the pink elephant in their thoughts.
The thoughts become tense, and the more one tries, the bigger the elephant becomes.
Complete letting go of the efforts is then the only solution.

A special case is pink elephants in scent memory, as I have found; in my experience, one cannot get rid of them at all.
I first encountered one after reading Apicius's comment on Iris & White Musk. Since then, I rarely shake off the carrot association with iris. I immediately sold my bottle of Jo Malone; the scent impression was beyond saving.

With most biodynamic scents, my association is a tea shop from the 80s. There, in addition to tea, there were writing utensils, beautifully decorated stationery, elegant diaries, and probably also fragrance oils. I believe the scent connection exists through sandalwood and patchouli; otherwise, I cannot explain why this tea shop appears before my inner eye with almost every biodynamic scent I have tested.

This was also the case when testing the wonderful little package from Fluxit.
Vanilla & the Sea smells to me like vanilla plus a time travel to that tea shop.
In the statements, I read about sea, amber, and tropical fruits. The scent seems to have left a more differentiated impression on other perfume enthusiasts.

As much as I would like to enjoy biodynamic scents, and there is much to recommend them, I do not want to smell like a tea shop.
Therefore, it seems that there will be nothing more between biodynamic scents and me, at least not in this scent life.

Sea and Beach
From a bitter-stinging opening, caramel-like vanilla emerges. The sting quickly gives way to an exotic, elegant bitterness that encourages constant sniffing. I would never have thought of it on my own, but the bitter-spicy scent of perhaps sun-dried seaweed can - with a bit of imagination - be considered accurate. Not as a simple imitation, which would inevitably fail, as everyone knows who has been to the sea. Instead, a dark, strong, almost malty vanilla stands as a worthy, thoroughly mature counterpart that underscores the perfumed ambition of the whole.

Already after about an hour, it has "sea-ed" out, as orange aspects come into play, primarily "nimm2" neroli. In this composition, it is original again.

I also find the floral contribution special: The tuberose is comparatively un-floral, nutty-creamy, not unlike Baruti's 'Voyance'; nevertheless, the fragrance now gains a surprisingly white floral aura, supported not least by the orange blossom corner. The result is creamy, fruity - and successful. Possibly an extravagant sunscreen, distantly related to that from '19 Louanges Profanes' by Pierre Guillaume. So "ge-sea-t" becomes "ge-beach-t." But our bitter sting is always present. This is not for little girls.

Was there anything else? Oh yes: vanilla! I almost forgot. It hasn't had a place in the front row for a long time.

Thus, the core of the fragrance seems to be reached, the remaining part feels like an afterglow. From early afternoon, I initially perceive an underlying wax note à la Neuffer, while the floral-creamy aspect takes on a hint of dried apricot and gradually fades away. This so-so retreat sets in early, but the journey to this point has been enjoyable for me.

I thank Fluxit for the sample.

A gently spicy, slightly smoky vanilla delight,
with fruity aspects
and a hint of meaty flowers.

Smells like a pack of dried fruits (apricot, peach) including the sulfurous sweetness - and that's not bad.

Seaweed, spicy, salty, and a bit musty, vanilla and tropical flowers. Caribbean vibe? Think again! Where's that lavender coming from?

Salty gari (sushi) rounded off with vanilla as an overall impression.
A lingering light animal note.

Maritime amber notes and citrus sharpness. Floral notes float alongside. A lovely idea, but hard to picture it. :)

Vanilla, spices, and smoke for me. Like a package of fruit tea. No sea or beach impression.

Urgs, Vanilla & the South Sea - very sweet, very floral (Tuberose), vanilla... I suddenly thought of Monoi oil from Yves Rocher.
