A lavender stands in the woods... wrapped in honey...
As a teenager, I once had a box, a box for and by witches, herbalists with rituals, instructions, and love spells. It contained oils, candles, herbal mixtures, and incense.
The reason was the immortal love of a 13-year-old for a 16-year-old, whose name I don't even remember today and whom I really got to know at 18/19 and, how could it be otherwise: I found him unbearably boring. Luckily, the love spell didn't work.
After briefly sniffing various scents from this brand, I vividly remember that box, which I cherished and cared for; the mixture of herbs and oils smells exactly like the opening of the hiking letter.

I have a quirk, a tick. No matter where I go and stand, I have to run my hands over every lavender bush while walking and smell my hands. Lavender can smell so different, and the season also determines the olfactory impression. So it was logical that Lavender Noir had to be tested right away.

The opening is pure lavender, so intense and dark that I have to sneeze immediately. Very concentrated, almost metallic, it smells so ethereal. The lavender runs clearly through the entire development but weakens in its intensity, giving space to the other ingredients.
In close view, smoke (fades quickly) and mushrooms (more like sprouts, a hint under the foliage), honey or honey resin drips from the trees, very delicate, more in the background, the wind carries the scent of wildflowers.
In the distant view, one gets the impression of a shadow lavender, deep violet in color, in the woods. A quiet and calm place, a clearing without light, the forest is untidy, natural, the ground steams; when the sun shines a bit soon, the mushrooms will sprout abundantly. Right behind it, a meadow. This lavender blooms in autumn. It shifts between cold and warm.

Now I don't know if it's due to the cautious dabbing, but the scent is subtle after the powerful opening, the sillage is very moderate, almost more intimate.

Lavender Noir is deeply calming and grounding. Perhaps more aromatherapy than perfume, although it will surely smell very attractive on the right person. More perceived as a personal body scent. Personally, this honey note is too present for me, and the scent becomes too quiet in the further development for me to want to wear it.
Otherwise, a recommendation for lavender honey lovers who enjoy a bit more nature in their scent and want to be subtly scented.

Just before.....
Their countless violet flowers and clusters sway gently in the warm wind.
Like a sea of gentle waves. Enchanting, aware of their beauty.
The light is immersed in an unreal, shifting dark violet atmosphere.
The horizon is black.
Deep black clouds hang almost motionless in the sky, creating a gloomy mood.
So many wildflowers stand by the wayside. Expectantly, they stretch their little heads towards the sky.
Delicate chamomile flowers gently release their scent.
The dried grasses, sunburned, rustle softly and steadily.
Their fragrance now gently merges with that of the wildflowers, stretching and that of the lavender.
A whisper-thin flower honey coats this dark, almost gloomy warm scent in the air.

Lavender Noir shows me exactly this image. Gives me this feeling.
The sultry warm wind that carries this indescribably beautiful dark lavender scent.
On a hot summer day.
Just before....it rains.
Lavender Noir.

I am very grateful to Fluxit for this experience.

With Alternative Uses
Lavender - well, okay. But also smoke and conifer. Let's say: smoked spirit of wine. From the lavender, however, I initially perceive more of its metallic aura than its typical aroma. And just like with ‘Meadow and Fir’, today’s candidate is also surrounded by something unreal. A fairytale forest with elements of ‘Norne’ (Slumberhouse) and ‘Wald’ (Euphorium Brooklyn). Additionally, I sense a hint of the sheep note from ‘100Tweeds’ (again Euphorium Brooklyn), which draws from the resinous-sour aspect in the spirit of wine. Et voilà - I had already suspected camphor for the sheep in ‘100Tweeds’.

But that’s just the beginning. Within an hour, ‘Lavender Noir’ gains sweetness as the lavender emphasizes one of its side aspects again, namely the honey-like part. However, Ms. Adam enriches it finely: after about two hours, it seems to me, on one hand, (haribo)-licorice-touched, and on the other hand, gently herbed. A hint like from a corresponding tea lies over it, just poured from the bag, not yet brewed. What might be in it? Anise, fennel (hence certainly the licorice thought), perhaps a pinch of chamomile. Spontaneously, I think of plantain, but that might all be nonsense. It is anyway just a side effect of the lavender, which now finally, very gradually, brings its actual aroma forward and thus keeps the sweetness in check. Very nice.

That’s it. The scent development comes to a standstill around noon. Great, because I feel cozily scented, although a lavender-herb-honey as a perfume is something to get used to, and we should be grateful for the rather restrained sweetness.

It cannot be denied that ‘Lavender Noir’ also
1. may be suitable for rubbing on painful joints,
2. would create a cozy atmosphere as a room scent during autumn and winter,
3. could enhance a tea, or
4. might be conceivable as a spread when thickened.

After all, we can credit Ms. Adam for pointing out alternative, for example, aromatherapeutic uses.

I thank Fluxit for the sample.

Lavender Forest Honey Print
Brand & Perfumer
How does one become a perfumer again? A few possibilities:
a) You study chemistry and take the route through the lab
b) You complete your studies at ISIPCA in France
c) You do it "just like that" autodidactically
d) You train for 7 years in herbalism, research for 9 years in ethnobotany, and then go to learn perfumery from none other than Mandy Aftel.

Irina Adam chose d). And together with the ten years that have already passed since the founding of Phoenix Botanicals, she has been able to gather half a lifetime of perfumery experience. I am pleased to say: You can smell it!

Scent
Lavender Noir is almost cheekily close to Fig, but since I gave that a solid 10 points, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. And it’s not surprising, as Fig also boasted of the lavender motif. A dreamy forest gourmand!
For lavender, I am often a little scent-blind except in flower form, but at the beginning, I recognize it well. Then forest honey rushes in, rather dry, smoky, and mushroom-forest spicy. Darkly sticky, a slight urine note hints at itself, but it is absolutely harmless and gives the scent depth. I am very curious how other people perceive this phase.
In the heart, a sweet pastry wallows, which gradually reveals itself as gingerbread print. Normally, I would stamp the perfume as unbearably Advent-like and toss it in the corner, but Lavender Noir remains delicious. Perhaps it is the green counterpoint that dances quietly around the central honey-forest sweetness.
I would be cautious with a unisex recommendation, but I really like it, really, really well. Not only for a natural perfume does the black lavender indulge in its almost all-day longevity. Sillage also in the lush green range. Great!

At the edge of the forest
Soft lavender shimmers
Under needle honey
Moss on the belly
From afar, the song of tonka rings
The earth wears a dress of smoke

A dark lavender scent: it works! Despite a noticeable sweetness, the fragrance leads through smoke, spice, and hay notes into the dark: Gothic Lavender.

Clearing in the evening. I toss dried lavender and hay into the fire, sip chamomile tea, and ponder the effects of mushrooms.

Strong impression of chamomile tea. Lavender too, but really "gloomy," definitely due to the mushrooms and oak moss.

A secluded hayloft by the edge of the forest, the campfire extinguished, bundles of lavender in the rafters... I love to spend the night here :-)

The overall scent reminds me of a licorice or ammonium pastille. Is that why it's called "Noir"?
