The Dance
Leather up is the sensual journey of two spirits trough a special night. It start off with a slighty boozy, got more the sweetness of rum, than of whisky. There are some grains of marzipan too. Not too sweet, but a tendency. Discreet floral sounds complement this very pleasant opening. An aldehyde theme as background music. An almost Guerlain classical facet.

Increasingly the scent of skin and leather pushes itself into the foreground. Like the dance that the person who gave it its name probably had in mind. Sensual desire, restrained by the moment and yet rebellious. Again, Phuong plays with the image of incense, which automatically evokes something wicked and forbidden in the lascivious subject. A picture of crackling eroticism unfolds in which Bertrand Duchaufour infuses all his mastery.

Hard leather, such as Tuscan Leather for example, is deliberately avoided here. The suede is very close to soft, thin, high-quality leather that has already been worn. These softer leather notes are the very aura that simulates the the aspects and smell of human skin. As an olfactory meta level.

As a wonderful side effect, almost every chord with slight sweetness melts on this leather. In the heart of the scent the aldehyde are extendend into a slight variation of the theme. It's like SHE just turned around beside me, half asleep and my nose catches the last moments of her perfume, that I had tingled my nose for the whole evening, but I had forgotten about, because of the "events" of the last hours.

The two dancers (or lovers) in a world of slightly greenish structured passion, the resin in the drydown derived, to calm down and in their unity, simply to let be.

Leather up is a modern interpretation of an Oriental-Chypres, which will surely enchant many hearts and especially noses.

Please insert a suitable boring headline
Leather Up by Phuong Dang costs a staggering 450 US dollars per 100ml. Very often, this leads us to formulate high expectations for a fragrance, one suspects or even wishes for an olfactory revelation. Unfortunately, reality is a hard, different one. So it is here as well, which I would like to describe today in a factual manner, completely without a story.
I read the description of Leather Up in detail on the website, where the advertising text wants to take us mentally, what impressive impressions are to be created. With a velvet-clad, attractively looking lady on the page. Unfortunately, that is also the best part. I notice little of passion and enthusiasm. But enough of the introduction.

At first, I had to think of the league of violet leathers, of suede. For me, it is rather feminine. Of course, we have plenty of floral notes here. The rose, which accompanies clearly, elegant but also quite obvious. Iris, of course, must not be missing in any soft suede scent. Clearly noticeable, it provides dry accents.
But from the beginning, these notes only peel out after roughly two hours. At first, there is a strongly distorted mandarin, which is dominated by the carrot; otherwise, I can hardly explain the artificial sprightliness and the reduction of the actual mandarin. I would like to say that racy saffron or a decent whiskey plays a role, as indicated. Unfortunately, I cannot say that. In any case, we have, if at all, no high-quality whiskey note.

After that, it quickly becomes floral without becoming delicate. One stands rather in front of an indefinable wall. The suede mixes in, and here flashes what it can be. Dark, substantial suede with character. A sublime strictness spreads out, but - too short! These moments vanish quickly, they do not linger! Instead, the leather is floral softened and overwhelmed by musk.

As for oud, I am no expert. Laotian oud is said to be multifaceted and, among other things, to have an earthy fruitiness; moreover, it is very expensive because agarwood is not as common in Laos as rice with fish from the Mekong. These fruity notes are really present, they smell good too. Alone: the balance is missing for me, respectively the overall arrangement. The construct seems quite immature, unbalanced.
Delicate, mossy hints are included, at least. In terms of weight, it is merely a kind of cameo appearance.

Perhaps I would have at least given it a 7/10, but I couldn't bring myself to do that. Leather Up joins the ranks of Leather Forever by De Gabor. Shamelessly overpriced, hopelessly gray and mediocre. Essentially, the VfL Bochum of leather fragrances. Only one would expect ticket prices like in London. This may sound harsh and dramatic. True. Objectively, Leather Up is really okay, let's say just fine. The question that obviously guides my comment, however, is whether such overpriced fragrances are necessary when one could achieve the same olfactory experience with lesser quality for 30-50 euros. Leather Oudh by Orientica smells better (subjectively), costs ten euros for 30 ml. Of course, I see that most testers give this fragrance really high ratings - Leather Up can surely withstand my contrary opinion!

Yes, not intrusive yet so memorable.
They exist. This type of person who stands out yet is so inconspicuous. People whose mere presence is enough to draw attention, only to then silently and unobtrusively leave the stage. What remains is this immensely strong impression that lingers and embeds itself. This is what one might call an alpha type, but not the macho or daredevil kind, rather a leader. Assertive and tough, yet simultaneously soft and compassionate.
When I think of my chosen words, Leather Up comes to mind. I attribute the characteristics described above to it.

Leather Up combines two quite different characteristics and brings them into a context. However, they do not merge into one but run linearly alongside each other and coexist.
On one side, we have a fruity, fresh soft aspect, which serves as the counterpoint to a more angular, leathery side that comes across as quite robust.
The fragrance begins with a blend of mandarin and bergamot. Immediately, however, there is the olfactory counterpoint conveyed through a beautiful whiskey note. The scent has a fruity start, but it is consistently herbaceous.
As it develops, it becomes spicier. The freshness remains but is complemented by a leathery undertone. I find it difficult to distinguish between suede and leather, so I will simply refer to it as leather. The scent now has a stronger emphasis on the spicier realm, which I tend to support. This keeps it somewhat more masculine and prevents it from getting lost in a fruit mix. Overall, it also has a smoky touch, somewhat reminiscent of tobacco, which I find very strong. I think the idea is well executed, and I immediately associate it with a lumberjack. Strongly built, leather boots, plaid shirt, cigar in mouth, and during breaks, enjoying a single malt.
Towards the end, patchouli makes it a bit earthier, gliding into the overall context without being too dominant.

The longevity is decent, subtle in its projection. As described, it is striking, noticeable but so quiet that it does not disturb. Yet it embeds itself in memory.
I like it and tend to see it on a man, although it would certainly suit a woman as well. However, it is certainly not for every woman.

a typical representative of floral leather scents; if you know one, you know them all. Here, it's slightly finer and more suede.

Zesty start with a funky off-note, scrubbed away from medicinal oud, morphing into floral-leathery, reminiscent of Duchaufour's well-known Traversée..

Pleasantly rounded, perfumed leather scent. Freshened up and floral with a hint of fruit and very subtle body. Very wearable!

Must have :) Not for boys, but for wild girls. I smell powder, but not in a nice way, rather daring.

Enchanting suede beauty with chypre hints meets whisky, floral-resinous notes, and more. Heavy & hard to describe.

Great complex scent that can truly impress. Longevity, in my opinion, is unfortunately absolutely overrated, not worth the price!

Pretty much intoxicated in a leather jacket, handing a bouquet to the affair - with flashes from the night before. Pure sex. Genius.
