Standard Designer Oud
Roberto Cavalli Oud Edition opens with an oud accord commonly seen in many western exclusive oud fragrances, sharing the leathery, earthy and slight nutty characteristics of cypriol, and devoid of any animalic, musty or musky facets of the oud. A jammy rose discreetly runs underneath, but thankfully never steps out of the shadow. Saffron provides mostly its fuzzy warmth, but none of its tantalising fruity yet bitter medicinal aspects.

The fragrance mostly remains this standard western-style oud, but with one intriguing addition: an incense note reminiscent of clean burnt dirt. Smoky, but not arid or aggressive, and it adds a surprisingly airy vibe to the otherwise dense oud accord.

The perfume doesn't go under any major development. It just becomes more creamy due to the amber and vanilla in the base. The sillage is moderate, and the longevity is around 10 hours.

Roberto Cavalli Oud Edition was released in 2013, right when the oud became so fashionable that every designer brand was producing at least one exclusive oud fragrance. Inevitably, many chose to play safe, only adding minor variation to the common oud accord, which is what this Oud Edition did in my opinion. That being said, this Oud Edition feels surprisingly smooth compared to a few smoky oud fragrances in recent years that rely heavily on certain aggressive, extra-dry woody amber aromachemicals, for which I'm grateful. If you enjoy designer oud fragrances with less emphasis on rose, Roberto Cavalli Oud Edition might be an option to consider.

Vicious
~ Inspiration ~
I didn't know what Oud meant until now and thought it was a slightly different version of the golden Cavallis.

~ Bottle ~
The rounded shape of the Cavallis has been retained. The only difference - the gold is mirrored and you can't see the fill level.

~ Scent ~
Wooaaaah - this hits hard!
Pretty much all the fragrance notes present that do not suit my taste at all. Upon application, I am immediately hit by a piercingly bitter, smoky, intoxicatingly oriental note. I mostly smell smoke and a hint of mandarin/orange blossom and vanilla very subtly in the background. I didn't know what animalic as a fragrance note meant, but I think that describes it quite well here!

~ Longevity ~
On my skin, it lasts longer than I would like - around 8 hours (on clothing and hair even longer!). A conservative dosage is desirable here.

~ Occasion ~
I’m glad I didn’t test it in the office! The perfume can only be worn in the evening for going out. It comes across as very confident, sexy, and wicked (Oud is also said to have an aphrodisiac effect).

~ Conclusion ~
So for me, it's not my thing, but the scent could smell very interesting on the right people. In my opinion, it suits men better - I certainly would never classify it as a women's perfume...

Strict Oriental with Smoky-Mystical and Erotic Effect
So, after curiosity forced me to order Roberto Cavalli Oud blind, I dare to summarize my impression.

I must say that I really like the latest generation of Cavalli fragrances, as they have truly surprised me positively. However, if you think the Oud has anything in common with the Roberto Cavalli released in 2012, you are mistaken.
While the 2012 Cavalli offers a soft, warm, dark-sweet amber scent, the Oud is a strict oriental. Here, "strict" is not meant negatively, but represents for me the epitome of a mystical-erotic oriental.

At first, I thought I had an Amouage in front of me. With all its high perfumery art.

The heavenly top note is fruity and strong, a bit delicately bitter and spicy. The Oud theme is already excellently implemented here. I find the top note absolutely wonderful, especially since the Oud does not smell medicinal here, but is very woody-warm and wonderfully modernly embedded. The valuable fragrance ingredient Oud has been popular in the oriental countries and Asia for decades, costs more than gold, and is said to even have aphrodisiac effects.

However, the opening is quickly overtaken by the heart note. Now a resinous wild-leather note takes the lead. The Oud is present, but holds back a bit, still rising seductively to the nose from time to time. Here, the scent reminds me a lot of "Beloved" by Amouage, although the components are quite different. A bit stronger than the Beloved, but very fine and noble.

In the base, I do not perceive any vanilla, and the amber only gently plays around darkly. Actually, an oriental-spicy, slightly seductive animalistic note develops during the scent progression.
Overall, the scent is very pleasantly unsweet and, in my eyes, not so feminine at all. I can also imagine it very well on a man.

In summary, it can be said that Roberto Cavalli has embarked on a great experiment here, which, in my opinion, he has succeeded excellently. Unfortunately, the longevity for an Eau de Parfum Intense is somewhat weak. I do find it present for hours, but by no means room-filling.
This fragrance appeals to both lovers of oriental scents and Oud or leather scent enthusiasts.

The combination of saffron, leather, and oud shouldn't appeal to me, but I find the scent solid because all the notes remain moderate.

Reminds me of something from Ford. The oud is moderate here, leather is the defining scent for me, saffron is stronger at the beginning, amber-vanilla ....

The golden, oud-heavy leather is engraved with saffron-red rose patterns and intertwined beautiful O.flower motifs. Opulent, elegant.

The scent isn't bad, but my idea of Oud is quite different.

More modern leather-saffron oud. Sensual, incense-like, with little sweetness, it remains balanced, catering to a unisex audience. I like it.

Sensual, oriental, cozy, and erotic.
One of the most beautiful Cavallis. A well-kept treasure. Wonderful and unfortunately limited...

Absolutely worth smelling! Leather-woody with a hint of rose. Very balanced, longevity is very good, also with the other Cavalli-Ouds.

Saffron, orange blossom, leather accord, amber, oud, slight hints of incense, beautiful but nothing new, longevity is less impressive, sillage is okay at first.

Mandarin saffron? Where are you? But then orange leather!! How amazing is that? A bright, beautiful leather bag that has been lying in the sun for a long time.
