The Jam Woman
Just as there is hardly a historical novel to be found these days that does not bear a (often quirky) female job title, there are hardly any fragrances on the drugstore shelf that are not fruity-sweet.
Jam Woman is one of them.
Upon first spray, clouds of alcohol and grapefruit rise, but right after drying, it becomes clear that this jam is a well-sweetened mix of various fruits. The Jam Woman has thrown in sweet blackberries and peaches along with pineapple and black currants into the pot. There are no flowers in the pot, but they must be on the windowsill of this newly furnished kitchen - you can still smell the wood-and-cardboard scent from the DIY furniture store.
The sillage of this fruit blend is rather subtle over time, albeit distinctly girlishly sweet, with longevity being so-so. The scent lasts for half a day, then there's room for something new.
I can't discern a great scent development, even though towards the end the wood comes through stronger and the fruits take a bit of a backseat. I hardly perceive any flowers, even though my skin chemistry usually tends to highlight existing blooms.
Paradoxically, I find that Jam Woman is quite a friendly little fragrance, uncomplicated, unpretentious but pretty. Clearly suitable for the mass market, just like so many of the historical novels whose titles are a female job title.
