The Spice Cupboard has Been Robbed!
I kept checking the bottle label and sample and Sales Associate to make sure she hadn't mix these samples up! This is very light on the Nutmeg- so if that's what you're after (yeah, sometimes I like a fragrance to just tell me what it is in the name- Nutmeg & Ginger is a Summer sprizter, rather than a piquant spice blend. It is almost undetectable to my nose, which is typical very sensitive and literally begins to burn in the same room with someone wearing a single spritz of Amariage, Christian Dior's Poison or even D&G's the One. Well, this scented water sits on the other side of the galaxy, like a distance planet capable of sustaining life, but not currently interested in sustaining life. This is beyond tepid in its use of Nutmeg and Ginger...it's less gingery than Canada Dry Gingerale and less nutmeggy than a 10 year old nutmeg locked in a bank volt in a remote Inuit village thousands of miles away.

What is in this big bottle? Sort of imagine a watered down version of green mandarine, grapefruit, lemon, petitgrain, clove, cinnamon, ginger, pink peppercorns, geranium, lavender- pinch O' wood- i.e "Diptyque's L'eau de L'eau". It is clean, transparent, zesty totally office appropriate, clean- did I mention clean? A unisex citrus splash with a touch of sandalwood in the dry down- which happens approximately 30 minutes after application. And then, the real magic happens- Presto! Et Voila! It completely disappears. Not a bad after shower splash on those hot humid muggy days- but not worth it and not going to fix my nutmeg and ginger addiction at all- I'll stick with "Origins Ginger Essence" for the Summer and Bois 1920's fantastically rich "Sushi Imperiale", Serge Luten's "Five O'clock aux Gingembre" or "Comme des Garçons Original EDP" for my ginger and nutmeg fix, Thanks.

bathroom deodorizer
This is one of my least favorite perfumes ever. It should have been perfect - I like all the notes individually. However, on me it had a horrible fakey chemical smell that only reminded me of the deodorizer used in the bathrooms of Greyhound buses here in the U.S.. Not a happy association. I even tried it again because I couldn't believe how bad it was on me, and got the same result. (I've tried other Jo Malones since & this must be a line that just doesn't agree with me, although the others weren't this bad.) I'm mystified & would love to smell it on someone it agrees with. Ann Arbor, MI
In the fall, I was in Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is a medium-sized city in the Great Lakes state of Michigan, about half an hour west of Detroit, probably the most famous of the once-thriving industrial cities of the Midwest - in a curve from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic coast - which today, after its spectacular decline, they call the 'Rust Belt.' In Ann Arbor, there is no sign of that.

Although it was my first time there - so I don't know the other seasons at all - I am sure that it is most beautiful in the fall. In October, hollowed-out pumpkins sit in front of the white and gray-blue painted wooden porches. And because Ann Arbor is a well-known university town, the tree-shaded sidewalks are populated by students with books in their arms - and bearded professors with patches on their elbows.

In October, it smells everywhere of Pumpkin Spice, a spice blend of nutmeg and ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves, which is typical for fall in the USA. From every bakery, every café, warm, comforting wafts rise into the street, transforming the city into a kind of surreal Midwest Stars Hollow, where everyone wears red, hand-knit wool scarves and falls into each other's arms while eating Oatmeal Raisin Cookies.

Conclusion: this autumn warmth, this idyll, the muted light, and the omnipresence of coziness - all of this is captured by Jo Malone in Nutmeg & Ginger, perhaps THE classic among her fragrances. A scent that tells of steaming breath on coarse wool gloves, of glowing pumpkin faces, and friendly literature professors in worn tweed jackets on the streets of Ann Arbor. Home is where the heart is.

Ginger Cream
Nutmeg in fragrances always catches my attention. While not always welcome in food, I love the spice even more in perfumes. It often radiates a pleasant, even erotic skin scent.

In Nutmeg & Ginger, however, ginger comes first, only slightly spicy, but quite sweet. More like sweetened ginger tea. I also smell lemon, not sour, but beautifully lemony with powdered sugar.

The nutmeg is subtle here, but in the most beautiful connection with the other notes.

What blows me away and comes completely unexpectedly is a wonderful creaminess. I once had a cream that smelled like this, but unfortunately, I can't recall the name and brand.

This scent is so different from what I expected. While ginger-heavy, it has such a creamy, delicately spicy aura that I am completely enchanted.
Here, a harmony like no other has emerged from fresh and citrusy notes combined with sweet and powdery nuances, which is simply fantastic.

Postscript: When I applied Nivea cream to my hands in the evening and then sniffed the scent again, I became aware of the great similarity.
It could therefore be the perfect Nivea scent.

Ginger, just as it should be
I was on vacation and had planned to check out the Jo Malone fragrances. For this purpose, I had selected three or four scents that I wanted to test. Nutmeg & Ginger was not among them.

While testing, the nice lady suggested that I could try this one too, as it is a classic (Jo Malone's first fragrance) and very popular.

Well... I thought, let her do her thing; it was too complicated and exhausting for me to explain to her in English what I wanted.

Once I smelled the fragrance, it wouldn’t let me go.
I walked around on vacation for days. I had to have this scent.
And now I have it.
A fragrance that can be worn all year round.

The scent begins.
I cut open a ginger root. The first impression is citrusy. Very citrusy. Then the ginger becomes sharper and more like what one imagines ginger to be.
With this image, I can't move forward.
The nutmeg softens the sharpness of the ginger and gives the fragrance a slight sweetness. Sweet is the fragrance still far from.

The woody base also reveals itself after a while and takes away some of the ethereal freshness of the scent.

Throughout, the fragrance remains almost as it was at the beginning. It is only complemented by a few aspects as it develops.
The lemony freshness, the sharp herbal-spicy ginger, the sweetish-herbal-spicy nutmeg, and the wood.
The freshness lasts until the end.

Not well balanced fragrance in comparison to its high price: ginger and nutmeg are too strong and different to be mixed . Anyway, original

Ginger, citrus-fresh & spicy, nutmeg, powdery-spicy, and a whole lot of wonderful laundry-cleanliness. Summer scent. Love!

Ginger and sharp, tangy lemon unfortunately fade quickly to an aromatic hint. A zesty top note quickie.

Nutmeg is in charge and decides the direction. Ginger doesn’t have much say in it.
Unpleasantly loud and intrusive for this house.

This scent was my signature for a long time - great that JM brought it back! I find it unmistakably fresh/spicy. No Nivea in my opinion.
