Spicy, Dirty, Amber.
Review based on the original formula, bottle from 2013.

A bold, pungent amber scent built around a smoldering labdanum note. There is plenty of Oud to go with that, loads of spices, mainly in the opening, and smoke. I never got much vanilla or sweetness in Ambre Loup. Reading more recent reviews I figure this one has been changed quite a bit. The Hindi Oud and the Labdanum combo hit quite hard and give off a beautiful animalic character to this perfume. One of the best in the genre, without a doubt. Personally, I never liked sweet amber scents, especially those loaded with vanilla. They just feel plain wrong. Whoever has smelled labdanum on its own will understand why. This is a very good approximation of how a true Amber Fossil accord ought to smell.

Rania J Ambre Loup Review
An amber perfume that's truly unique and that's what Ambre Loup by Rania J is. One of the most original compared to any other amber I have in my collection and i do have 20+ different ambers but I find Rania J Ambre Loup a more cozy amber even with it's spiciness and very light animalic undertones. Very underrated too in fact Rania J is very underrated as a perfume brand. But if you would like to find an amber that's spicy and cozy to wear search no more. To find out more please also watch my video with special guest Ana. Thank you.

Smoky woody comforting amber
A woody smoky amber that reminded me straight off upon wearing of Mona di Orio's Ambre. I compare all the ambers I try to the watermark held by Serge Lutens' Amber Sultan. Lutens' is more of a dry amber and Rania's more cozy and powdery. Amber Sultan always makes me think of a dry arid desert and Rania calls to mind a winter's night in an isolated mountain lodge somewhere far away from my tropical island home. Sillage and longevity wise are both very good, the ingredients are obviously of good quality and overall this is worth its price. In terms of price, this might knock Mona's ambre off my want list.

There are two wolves inside you
Loup means in French wolf, people from ancient times domesticated quite a number of animals, starting with a dog who was the first domesticated animal. However, we never were able to domesticate a wolf.

You may ask how it relates to these perfumes. At the opening, we have harsh, dry, animalic notes. However, during the time the notes are domesticating, the same way wild animals getting used to a man. In the mid, which is here very long-lasting even 5-6 hours we got sweet vanilla, amber notes. On the end about 8-9h it turns out in woodier notes. Did we domesticated wolf here, I would say yes and I like it.

It is really complex, beautiful developing and long-lasting perfumes. By no means do not make an opinion based on a blotter, it needs skin contact and several hours to show all the best it got.

Nocturnal hope
Dim but tender,
strong yet sensitive.

I met this masterpiece in Budapest, in a wonderful fragrance shop, from where Billie Eilish later bought the same fragrance (during her concert at the Sziget Festival). I love Billie and understand why she chose this seductively dark elixir.

For me, North and Orient meet in Ambre Loup. The seductive darkness of eerily roaring forests. Something like the opening shots of "Twin Peaks". A dim ominous roar.

But for me, this fragrance is hopeful, thanks to its sensitive and intelligent profundity. This is not an aggressive blackness. Rather the musty beauty of old wood and libraries.

Unlike many scents with an intense (oudy) dark character in my collection, I have never started to hate this Rania J artwork. This scent is calming, down to earth, organically connecting with the body. Perfect for layering with something greener or sweeter.

None of the notes shout over the others, all embrace each other in this nocturnal composition. So proundly felt through.

Despite the darkness, I don't feel too strong wearing it during the day, wearing it in the spring, with a t-shirt. Rania J Ambre Loup is my earthly safe zone.

Boozy, slightly smoky, sweet, damp terra firma. Somehow both terrestrial and celestial. An earthbound angel of a fragrance.

Resinous and warm at the same time that oriental/spicy. The best amber to me nowadays. Stuns at first, then tames later itself with vanilla

Can’t stop thinking about this one. Boozy, smoky, vanilla, cinnamon, resin. Unique interpretation of amber in Rania J.’s distinctive style.

A warm heart surrounded by a spicy and balsamic aurea that keeps the fragrance far from a disgusting sweetness with a touch of animalic wood

Animalic and balsamic opening with labdanum and clove. A warm and furry blanket of sweet amber, spicy with vanilla and tonka in the drydown.

Wouldn't say this is your atypical amber like Grand Soir. This is very roughened up with heavy dose labdanum and cinnamic vanilla drydown.

Labdanum base amber frag. It is a spicy resinous syrupy smoky balsamic woody amber. I don’t consider it animalic. Performance is average.

Smells like vanilla extract mixed with cinnamon. Not quite sure I understand the hype. 5.5/10.

Vanilla that develops. Starts from a slightly animalic vanilla to a semolima pudding vanilla. Shines especially in cold weather
