The little shop of horrors
Many of you are probably familiar with the play in which the main character is a carnivorous plant. This reminds me of Shatha al Oudh. In this case, it is a rose. But one that packs a punch. I have never encountered such a rich, deep, aggressive, and dark-animalic rose scent before, and I don't know whether I should be attracted to it or repulsed.

I can't really speak of a scent progression, as there is no other theme in this fragrance than this fleshy floral scent that fascinates me and lingers in the air. Although intense notes have been used alongside the rose, which I can also recognize, they all seem to serve merely as boosters for the queen of flowers in my nose.

I am excited by the olfactory experience; I can also imagine the scent in an oriental setting, but I wouldn't want to wear it, as I would feel like I was dressed up as an Arabian princess, and in that role, I would at best appear ridiculous.

I would recommend Shatha al Oudh to anyone who loves intense, heavy, and expansive rose fragrances and has an inclination towards the Orient.

Oriental Rose Fragrance Oil of the Eighties
That's exactly how this scent smells on me.

In the eighties, those little oriental shops with all sorts of baggy pants, dresses with mirrors and colorful embroidery, and plenty of small square or round bottles with fragrance oils were very popular with me.
And that’s exactly what I remembered while testing this scent - thanks to Antoine - right away:
One drop is completely sufficient; I used to apply the oils much too generously back then.
I smell rose, rose, rose - although a bit more refined (i.e., not quite as overpowering) than the contents of those bottles back in the day.

And the rose remains, even after a longer time, dominant. I can only detect a little amber as it develops.
That's it.
For me today, it's not a scent I want to wear; it's too "oriental bazaar" and too one-dimensional.

Too Close to the Camel's Behind
Now only 2 tests of my Rasasis are overdue, and these two are something else. Hardly measurable by Western standards and also difficult to describe. Even the notes mentioned above hardly hint at the scent, but here too, Oud is the driving force, probably more than in any other perfume that has come under my nose so far.

Shata al Oudh smells extremely challenging to me, probably for all Western noses. And even by Arab standards, it is a heavyweight. It smells animalistic, piercing, rotten, with a slight sweetness in the background. With a bit of imagination, it really does smell somewhat like urine, but that hasn’t been a negative point since A*Men. Only here, there is practically no sweet counterpart; everything is sour, bitter, a bit like sweat in hot desert air. Camel drivers with millions in the bank, who you should be able to smell across the entire Sahara. The scent spreads like a balsamic desert wind, which comes across as anything but delicate, rather toxic.

The bottle is really sturdy, like an Oud knight in golden armor. No plastic here, which is a pity as it’s not always like this with Rasasis. I hope there will be a photo soon! And it lasts as long as A*Men and Joop Homme combined. You really have to be careful when spraying on clothes, and you have to shower and scrub often so that the piercing Oud balm is no longer detectable. My skin merges with the scent, almost absorbing it. But it also emits it so intensely that the entire apartment gets fogged up. Incredibly strong! If Arabic discos smell like this, it ruins my taste even for the most delicious cocktails or Kölsch!

Interesting, extreme, radical, and taken to the extreme of 1001 Nights. Unfortunately, the scent is too harsh for me and one of the weakest Rasasis. Only the presentation and strength are a sensation!

...no camel in sight for miles...but beneath the roses lies a cool-smoky-bitter note...sensational...similar to aoud saffron...

I don't want to stick my neck out too far, but for me, the floral notes remind me of Amouage Gold.

Strong spicy-balsamic floral scent with a big dose of lightly metallic authentic saffron and warm wood! Winter saffron!
