Contrast Medium!
Sergio Tacchini's "Club" is one of those perfumes that most people will pass by carelessly.
Too boring - almost ugly - is the bottle.
The name screams of yawning boredom. Seriously. "CLUB"???
So it's good that I'm actually quite bold when it comes to blind buys.
Yes, I've been quite disappointed a few times. But that was more due to my expectations.
So I can't blame any fragrance for that.
In the case of Tacchini's "Club," I was actually only intrigued by one single fragrance component:
"Chinotto"
Why?
First of all, I know the namesake bitter soft drink from beautiful Southern Italy (I often went to Apulia as a child), and secondly, I don't know of any perfume that lists Chinotto as a component.
Finally, the package arrived, and the perfume was really cheap to acquire (100ml under 20 euros).
Everything that followed formed the extreme contrast (hence the title) between the nasty 08/15 bottle and the content.
My God, what a unique freshie "Club" is.
First, you're greeted by the freshness of the Yuzu fruit, strong and in no way reserved.
Bergamot joins the opening, and all expectations you might have for a fragrance that seems inexpensive are initially fulfilled. So far, so familiar.
But the dry down is simply a knockout.
The (the, das?) Chinotto with its bitter/sweet zest now spreads out nicely, followed by a wonderfully salty aquatic note that constantly gives you the feeling of strolling along the promenade in a small Southern Italian village.
Here I see parallels to my dearly beloved "Salt Air" by Demeter.
The fact that this freshness lasts a solid 3-4 hours is fantastic for a fragrance of this nature.
Especially the bitter-fresh note clings to the skin like crazy.
Just before this perfume fades away, you can still smell clean white musk, just like you know and love from well-kept laundry.
I have simply fallen for this fragrance. It is truly unique in its DNA.
I don't know of a similar scent - especially not with a comparable development.
Sergio Tacchini's "Club" is a fabulous example of a classic own goal.
If only a bit more love had been put into the design of the product, this wonderful fragrance wouldn't be almost given away now.
Honestly, the design would have completely put me off in the store. Most people, too.
Boring bottle, plastic cap, cardboard, well...
How nice that courage is sometimes rewarded.
Thus, I became the proud owner of a uniquely authentic Southern Italian fragrance without synthetics and filled with many beautiful nostalgic memories.
But even without these memories, "Club" (oh God, this name) is an incredibly beautiful freshie whose DNA you don't smell on just anyone.
I would also attribute the perfume as unisex. Those who don't only like sweet but also a bit of bitter freshness will be well served here.
In any case, I will take a closer look at good Tacchini and his fragrances. Maybe there are still some ugly ducklings hidden there. ;)
I wish you a fragrant day :)
