A contemplative and soothing jasmine tea on an early spring morning.
"Jade Dragon" by Shanghai Tang is a fragrant homage to a sunny spring morning in Shanghai.

The refreshing top note of bergamot gives the fragrance a revitalizing start, while jasmine & tea capture the idea of a blooming garden and a relaxed tea moment.

Overall, a balanced composition emerges that combines elegant freshness with relaxed naturalness - an olfactory experience that transports the senses into the world of traditional Chinese tea enjoyment.

Truly a hidden gem, as the longevity is impressive too!

Cool Tea in the Cold Wind
In spring, I spent a few days in Hong Kong. The city is located on an island of the same name and the mountainous peninsula opposite this island in the humid subtropical southeast of China. And even if you go out on the street at five in the morning, your body forgets after just a few hours what it felt like not to sweat. It is warm everywhere. The only place that isn’t warm is in the shopping malls. In the shopping malls, it is freezing cold. One of the most elegant of these shopping centers is the Pacific Place Mall, and on the ground floor is the store of Shanghai Tang, one of the largest of a total of six in Hong Kong - the flagship store is here and not - as one might assume - in Shanghai.

The shops and also the assortment of Shanghai Tang vaguely remind one of 'China's answer to Hermès' - with a noticeable eye on non-Chinese clientele. While their focus is not on leather goods, the mix of elegant, simple (albeit mostly clearly Chinese-inspired) clothing, high-quality home accessories, and also perfumes is similar. And just as Hermès turned Parisian saddlery into a global brand, Shanghai Tang is now trying to do the same with the tailoring tradition of Shanghai: a Qipao dress from Shanghai Tang may soon be the Birkin Bag of the East. (Even if there are probably now more Birkin Bags - both fake and real - in China than anywhere else in the world.)

The perfumes of Shanghai Tang are presented very appealingly and with a sense of quality on a separate table. Labeled as men's fragrances are only three of them, and this one - Jade Dragon, the 'Jadedrachen' - is, in my memory, the most beautiful. Surely it may also be due to the constant temperature changes between dripping wet thirty degrees in the city and a breezy seventeen degrees felt in the Pacific Place Mall (and in the Shanghai Tang store), but its delicate freshness had something wonderfully balancing, calming, gentle - like the flutter of a dragonfly or a butterfly. Its citrusy opening is one of those that cannot be described as hesperidic because something slightly bitter, perhaps even smoky - 'only' vetiver or perhaps a vague hint of Lapsang Souchong? - gives a counterweight to the gray-green freshness. Its tea note is surprisingly powerful, yet remains airy - and despite the clearly perceivable jasmine, Jade Dragon is not a truly floral fragrance. On the contrary, there is something steadfast, almost robust in its delicacy - which may explain why they sell this perfume at Shanghai Tang as a men's scent. Although, of course, a - Chinese or non-Chinese - lady can wear it too.

Conclusion: there may still be a long way to go for Shanghai Tang if they really want to become the Hermès of the East. It should not be the perfumes that cause them to fail.

Grisu the Little Dragon?
Unknown scent! Unknown brand.. Yatagan very well-known! Thanks at this point for this extraordinary sample, which is not so easy to come by! When I looked at the sprayer, I asked myself "who?"..."whose could this be?".. but in digging up such rarities, our dear Yatagan is indeed a master.. he has the black belt in Parfumo;-)!
What greets you with the first spray makes the heart shine at pre-spring-like 13 degrees. Fresh citrus and green notes, a mix of Club Colonia and Allure Blanche Edition, refreshes you like Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Shampoo.. with a cooling effect. A lot of bergamot as you know it from Earl Grey tea, but also citrus-creamy and not quite so ethereal! In broad phases, the scent strongly reminds me of my highly esteemed Vetiver Babylone by Armani Priveé... really great.. but it remains a tad more robust, greener.. Vetiver Babylone is more golden-yellow. It also comes across a bit more natural, even though I am not bothered by synthetics in fragrances at all.
After 30-40 minutes, the lovely vetiver increasingly comes to the fore, giving the scent a body, where citrus notes tend to dissipate very quickly. I also like its longevity significantly better compared to Vetiver Babylone, although similar close to the skin.. but 1-2 hours more endurance! Jade Dragon fascinated me right away, even though 138€ is really a lot.. but well.. the Armani is even more expensive.. and I am seriously considering whether I should grab it on eBay for 70€!
Conclusion: Clear recommendation for those looking for a great spring and summer scent, love fresh-green fragrances, and want to experience the next metamorphosis after Cool Water, Allure Homme Sport, Colonia, and many more!

The sporty, fresh dragon
Jade Dragon. Sounds noble and expensive. Just like the bottle looks in its deep green. More emerald than jade. But well.

Shanghai Tang does not leave out the men and has created some good fragrances with its men's line.
The sporty man or woman can wear this scent very well. It is quite unisex. Quite Acqua di Parma - Bergamotto.

Development:
Citrusy bergamot that smells more like yuzu makes the start. Zesty 5 minutes. A slight salad smell. Fresh. Green. Light and sweet. Too sweet for a Western man over 50. Good for the sporty young man. Vetiver can hardly assert itself and smells very green and light. More green tea gives power here, gunpowder mixed with white flowers that hold back discreetly. Pleasant in the base. But also somewhat unspectacular.
That's it. Unfortunately already often on the market. But this one is rounded and never bothersome.
For those who are tired of Acqua di Parma and want to own a great bottle. Its longevity surpasses the Italians. A good 8 hours are in there.

Where? Internet or Alsterhaus Hamburg from €138.

Initially fresh-citric, this clean bitter-green Summer fragrance is nicely balanced by its soft spicy earthy-woody base. Rather linear.

Wonderful tea interpretation. Lightly citrusy. Weak sillage + longevity. It almost has to be like this.
I don't recognize the vetiver, though.

Cold lemon tea to spray on, has something! Nice and subtle, not too "overbearing," ideal for higher temps, HK could be a bit more! :-)
