Balancing Act
The Soivohle travel package is now with me. I already own 2 small bottles from the brand and knew that I would be dealing with anything but pleasing nose-ticklers, but rather with olfactory challenges. That’s precisely why I signed up. While I could hardly think of more than a statement for “Pink Praline” and “Raspberry & Black Pepper,” I would like to elaborate a bit more on “Carpathian Oud” (comment to follow) and “Tobacco & Tulle” - both have impressed me greatly!
I must preface that I only dabbed a small amount on my arm with the stick, as there are still quite a few users waiting for the samples. Nevertheless, my first impression of T&T was: “Wow, this is some damn strong-animalic stuff!” And I’m not really into anything too animalic... When I then read the statements and background information about Hyraceum, my enthusiasm didn’t grow.
And yet... the fragrance has something fascinating about it. And it doesn’t really come across as unpleasant to my nose at the beginning - just very strange. If you set aside the thought of feces (and the scent really doesn’t go in the direction of a cow barn or similar!), after a few minutes you might also associate it with a resin mixture in the desert sun or a very special type of tobacco. Especially as it develops further, the perfume shifts positively, with the resinous character increasingly overshadowing the animalic. Resinous scents, in turn, fit very well into my taste spectrum since my horizons have been broadened by Parfumo. So it’s a balancing act between 2 fragrance directions that I love or fear.
Still - I would only wear it at home. And how should I rate it now? A number cannot convey the conflict of sensations that this fragrance evokes in me. Therefore, I will exceptionally not rate it. Exciting and extraordinary, this perfume definitely is!
